DUNDAS, ON — When the three-year-old pacing colts return to Flamboro Downs on Sunday they will be short one Gold Elimination winner as Pacific Titan heads south of the border for Meadowlands Pace eliminations on Saturday.

But with the track and Ontario Sires Stakes record holder out of the picture John Lamers thinks his colt Dreamfair Vogel is perfectly positioned to step into the void and capture the $130,000 Gold Final.

Dreamfair Vogel was just two-fifths of a second behind Pacific Titan in his 1:52.1 record breaking mile last weekend and Lamers is confident that the Village Jiffy son can deliver an equally impressive mile Sunday evening.

“He is extremely good on a half-mile track, he loves it,” says the Ingersoll resident, who shares ownership on the colt with his wife Mary. “He is super gaited — he’s got that motion, that rhythm — and he is perfectly sound. He’s a real half-miler.”

Dreamfair Vogel will start from Post 7 in the Final and, while Lamers would prefer a post closer to the rail, he is confident that driver Tony Kerwood can carve out a trip for the winner of $304,806.

“I don’t like the seven-hole but Armbro Warranty has the six-hole and Vogel is a real digger. He can either leave or he can come-from-behind, as he showed last week,” says the owner-breeder. “He’s a gifted half-miler and Tony knows the horse so I think it’s a real good combination.”

Armbro Warranty captured the other elimination last weekend with a dominant 1:52.2 victory and Paul Mackenzie will steer the colt from Post 6 for trainer Fred Logan of Dutton and his partners Petrina and Helen May Lawrence of Madison Heights, MI and Ronald Lesky of Hazel Park, MI.

Another son of Village Jiffy, Armbro Warranty boasts a record of three wins and two seconds in six starts this season and is making his debut at the Gold level after posting a win in the Grassroots at Elmira Raceway on May 20.

Another colt making his Gold Series debut is Cam Bo Informal, who will start from Post 1 in Sunday’s eighth race. Antonio Chiaravalle of Hamilton acquired Cam Bo Informal just after his May 20 Grassroots win and since then the Bo Knows Jate son has recorded one win, two seconds and a third in four starts. The third came in last weekend’s Gold Elimination when he finished behind Armbro Warranty and Daylon Frontier.

“He’s a nice colt, we’ll see how nice on Sunday,” says Chiaravalle. “The rail helps, but he’s going to need a lot of help they are going so fast.”

Bill Robinson, who also trains Pacific Titan, handles the conditioning on Cam Bo Informal and Randy Waples will be back in the driver’s seat on Sunday.

Post time for Flamboro Downs’ first race on Sunday is 6:20 pm and the three-year-old pacing colts will battle for the $130,000 provincial purse in Race 8.
