WINDSOR, ON — With his first race jitters out of the way Sir Luck was all business in the $130,000 Gold Final at Windsor Raceway on Wednesday night.

There was no sign of the behind the gate misbehaviour that cost Sir Luck eight lengths in the Elimination. This week the Camluck son and driver Mike Saftic landed in fourth off the gate and were out and moving on leader Village Blitz before the halfway marker.

Toughing it out up the outside through the rest of the mile, Sir Luck was within half a length of Village Blitz by the top of the stretch and when Saftic asked for more speed the colt responded with a :28.4 finishing kick that gave him the victory by a neck. As the colts swept under the wire the infield timer flashed an impressive 1:53, just one-fifth off a second off the track and Ontario Sires Stakes record time set by Pacific Titan last season.

Village Blitz and Jody Jamieson held on for second after charting a :27, :56.1 and 1:24 course and favourites Twin B Dynamic and Randy Waples followed Sir Luck up the outside into third place, three and a quarter lengths behind the leaders. Make It Brief, owned by trainer Robert McIntosh of Windsor, Al McIntosh of Leamington and Michael Kohler of Sterling Heights, MI, finished four lengths back in fourth while the rest of the field trailed in more than 12 lengths to the rear.

Bill Budd trains Sir Luck for C and I Siegel Racing Stable Ltd. of Brooklyn, NY. With just two starts the talented young pacer has paid off his $20,000 purchase price and put his owners more than $54,000 in the black.

Sent off as the fans’ third choice, behind Twin B Dynamic and fifth-place finisher Stonebridge Premio, Sir Luck returned $9.20 to win, $4.00 to place and $2.90 to show. The Sir Luck and Village Blitz exactor ticket was worth $145.10 and the 1 – 5 – 4 triactor rang in at $362.10.

The exciting two-year-old pacing colts now make their way to Woodbine Racetrack next Thursday (July 11) for their second Gold Series event. Ontario Sires Stakes action returns to Windsor Raceway on Sunday evening with the $130,000 Gold Final for the three-year-old trotting colts.
