GLOUCESTER, ON — Incredible Iam received a Hall of Fame steer to capture the two-year-old trotting filly Gold Final at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday evening.
While favourite Sno Doubt About It and Darrell Coville set a blistering pace on the front end, reaching the opening quarter 17 lengths ahead of the field in :27.2, Hall of Fame horseman Ron Waples settled Incredible Iam in third and waited for the pacesetter to run out of gas. At the :58 half Sno Doubt About It was 14 lengths on top and by the 1:29 three quarters she remained 11 lengths in front of a disheartened field.
However, at the top of the stretch Incredible Iam was just four lengths behind and gaining steadily on Sno Doubt About It, and in Ottawa on Sunday evening sure and steady won the race as Incredible Iam hit the wire one and a half lengths on top in 2:02.
Shez Mine overcame an early break in stride to finish 11 lengths back in third, while the remainder of the field trailed in more than 25 lengths behind the winner.
Rideau Carleton fans sent Incredible Iam off as their sixth choice so the filly’s upset victory returned $38.90 for a win ticket, $10.90 on a place voucher and $5.20 to show. Sno Doubt About It paid $3.50 to place and $3.30 to show, while Shez Mine, the longest shot on the board, returned $9.70 to show. The Incredible Iam and Sno Doubt About It exactor returned $151.30 and adding Shez Mine to the mix earned you a hearty $1,688.50 triactor pay out.
Incredible Abe is owned by breeder Giuseppe Serratore of Woodbridge and Catherine Stewart of Campbellville and trained by Campbellville’s Kevin Davidson. The Incredible Abe daughter and regular reinsman Waples have been solid players on the early season stakes circuit, capturing their Trillium division at Rideau Carleton on July 4 and finishing second to Hollywood Beauty in last week’s Gold Elimination.
Local fillies Hollywood Beauty and Ifhallscouldtalk finished sixth and eighth after making breaks that knocked them out of contention.
The two-year-old trotting fillies make their next Gold Series start at Elmira Raceway on July 28 and compete in their second Gold Final as part of that track’s rich Industry Day Card on Aug. 4.
Ontario Sires Stakes action does not return to Rideau Carleton Raceway until Sunday, Aug. 24 when the two-year-old pacing fillies arrive in Gloucester for their second Trillium Series event.
