DUNDAS, ON — Ontario’s talented two-year-old trotting fillies head to Flamboro Downs on Wednesday afternoon to compete in eliminations for the third Ontario Sires Stakes Gold event on their 2003 calendar.
Topping the list of contenders is reigning Gold Final winner Meadowview Marion, who will benefit from Post 2 in the second race. With “Mr. OSS” Dave Wall in the race bike, the Incredible Abe daughter will be looking for a top two finish to advance to the $130,000 Gold Final on Aug. 27.
Meadowview Marion captured the Aug. 4 Final at Elmira Raceway with a flawless front end performance from Post 1 and Wall will be hoping for a similar effort from the talented filly on Wednesday. The filly is trained by Stayner resident Paul Shakes for his long time partner Charles Reid’s Meadowview Farms Inc. of Orono, the same duo who campaigned Meadowview Sunny to a $267,837 season in last year’s freshman trotting colt division.
While Meadowview Marion will start near the rail in her bid for a second Gold Final title, Incredible Iam will be hampered by the outside Post 7 in her second run at a Gold Final victory.
Another daughter of Incredible Abe, Incredible Iam delivered a solid performance at Rideau Carleton Raceway on July 20 to capture the season opening Gold Final. However, eight days later the filly drew Post 6 at Elmira Raceway and was unable to advance to the Final. Trainer Kevin Davidson of Campbellville and owners Catherine Stewart of Campbellville and Giuseppe Serratore of London are hoping Hall of Fame horseman Ron Waples can help the filly overcome the outside post in Wednesday’s eighth race and earn a return invitation to the Dundas oval.
Flamboro Downs sends its first race onto the track at 2:45 pm and the two-year-old trotting fillies step into the spotlight in Races 2, 5, 8 and 10. For the third time this season, qualifying for the $130,000 Gold Final will be a difficult task as only the top two finishers from each elimination will return to the half-mile oval for the Aug. 27 showdown.
