WINDSOR, ON — When the three-year-old pacing colts line up behind the gate at Windsor Raceway on Sunday evening Cliff Siegel is hoping fans catch another glimpse of the Sir Luck they saw in last week’s elimination round.

Scoring his first victory since May 29, Sir Luck rolled around the Windsor oval in 1:53 off a front end effort reminiscent of his $1.13 million two-year-old campaign. It was the Camluck son’s second start on the Lasix program and Siegel hopes it was the sign of things to come.

“I knew Sir Luck would be better on Lasix and wanted him fowardly placed,” notes the Brooklyn, NY resident. “Reg (Gassien) did the rest on his own and the horse responded to the task.”

Firing out of Post 4, the colt and driver Reg Gassien reeled off fractions of :26.3, :55.3 and 1:23.3, facing pressure from Pinstripe Poker through much of the mile, and hit the wire a length and three-quarters ahead of the field. On Sunday the colt returns to Post 4 and gets the services of Chris Christoforou and Siegel is expecting a similar trip from the pair.

“I think you will see him on, or close to the lead,” says the owner. “He is the horse to beat in the Final, in my opinion.”

Christoforou and Sir Luck will have their eyes peeled for the other elimination winners Stonebridge Premio from Post 3, Armbro Acquire from Post 5 and the colt’s stablemate Boulder Creek from Post 8. Siegel also owns Boulder Creek and expects to see that colt near the front in the $130,000 battle.

“It’s not my post of preference, I’m sure he will be leaving for position,” predicts Siegel. “But we won’t overdrive him or abuse him on a smaller track. There is no doubt that bigger tracks are more to his liking.”

Daniel Dube will handle the lines on Boulder Creek, who heads into Race 11 off a third-place finish behind Stonebridge Premio in the elimination round. Unlike Sir Luck, the Pacific Rocket son has enjoyed some success this season posting seven wins, one second and one third through 18 starts for earnings of $223,599.

Trained by Carlisle resident Bill Budd, Sir Luck and Boulder Creek star in Race 11 on Rideau Carleton Raceway’s Sunday evening program, which gets under way at 6:30 pm.
