FRASERVILLE, ON — Keystone Last Call logged a personal best effort to capture the fastest of three Trillium Series divisions at Kawartha Downs on Saturday evening.
The Yankee Glide filly and driver Gord Brown stalked pacesetter and fan favourite Blossom Seelster through fractions of :29.4, :58.2 and 1:27.2 before sneaking by in the stretch to score the 1:58 victory by three-quarters of a length. Gold Series regular Ifhallscouldtalk rounded out the top three in the $23,518 contest.
Bill Acton, Jr. trains Keystone Last Call for Doug Millard Holdings Inc. of Woodstock. The win was the filly’s fifth of the season and pushed her earnings to $31,723.
Gold Series veteran Fiesty Kindof Luv claimed the first Trillium division with an effortless wire-to-wire score in 1:58.1. Armbro Beseech finished one and a half lengths back in second and Grassroots point leader Sno Doubt About It was third by sixth lengths.
Trevor Henry was in the race bike for Fiesty Kindof Luv’s third Trillium Series victory and her fourth of the season. The Fiesty G G daughter was bred by trainer Ross Henry of Arthur and is owned by the Henry Stable of Arthur.
The final Trillium Series event of the season went to Northern Fuchsia and John Thomson, who toughed it out on the outside and then powered down the stretch to snatch the victory away from pacesetter Yankee Dakota. The Angus Hall daughter hit the wire in 1:59.3 to score her second victory of the season. Yankee Dakota settled for second and Scratchthatitch picked up third.
Roger Mayotte trains Northern Fuchsia for Donald Lawson of Guelph, Paul Lawson of Georgetown and James Lawson of Oakville. Through 12 starts the filly has posted a record of two wins, two seconds and one third for earnings of $33,055.
The Ontario-sired sophomore trotting fillies wrap up their Grassroots season at Georgian Downs on Oct. 16 and their Gold Series season Oct. 31 and Nov. 7 at Windsor Raceway. Kawartha Downs hosts the two-year-old trotting fillies in Trillium Series action on Oct. 19 to complete its provincial stakes schedule.
