CAMPBELLVILLE, ON — Legendary trotting conditioner Jimmy Takter piloted Patsy’s Point to victory in the fastest of four Gold Series Eliminations at Mohawk Racetrack Tuesday evening.

Leaving from Post 6, Takter settled the two-year-old trotting filly in behind pacesetter Helen’s Melons and bided his time through fractions of :29.1, :59.4 and 1:29.3. As the fillies turned for home, Takter asked Patsy’s Point for a bigger gear and the novice trotter responded with an impressive finishing kick that propelled her across the wire in 1:58.4, three and a half lengths in front of Helen’s Melons who was another five lengths ahead of third-place finisher Sandra’s Pleasure.

John Fielding of Toronto shares ownership on Patsy’s Point with Christine Takter of East Windsor, NJ, and the pair purchased the Striking Sahbra daughter out of last fall’s Tattersalls Yearling Sale for $17,000 US. Jimmy Takter prepped the filly for her Tuesday night debut with a pair of steady qualifiers at The Meadowlands June 22 and 29.

Patsy’s Point and Helen’s Melons will both advance to next week’s $130,000 Gold Final, while Sandra’s Pleasure drew the second also eligible position.

On a night full of harness racing stars, Hall of Fame horseman Dave Wall also made an appearance in the winner’s circle aboard John Bax trainee Oaklea Omega. Emulating Takter, Wall sat in behind front runner Lisas Mission throughout the mile. His strategy was scrambled slightly when Lisas Mission made a break at the head of the lane, interfering with Oaklea Omega, but the young trotter handled the scuffle with aplomb and trotted off to a half length victory in 2:00.2.

Sophie Soleil skirted the breaking Lisas Mission to earn second-place honours, while the pacesetter settled for third. All was not lost for Lisas Mission however, as she landed one of the two spots for third-place finishers in next week’s $130,000 Gold Final.

Peterborough resident Bax shares ownership on Oaklea Omega with Kenneth James of Acton, Brilo Farms of Sharon and Glenn Van Camp of Port Perry. The group acquired the Balanced Image miss at last fall’s Forest City Yearling Sale for $28,000.

Dance Hall Glory showed a great deal of maturity capturing the third Gold Elimination with a 1:59.4 effort. The Angus Hall daughter and driver Steve Condren spent some time parked on the outside, cutting the fractions and stuck on the inside, eventually breaking free around the final turn and pulling away to the three-quarter length victory over First To The Front and Meadowview Tiffy.

Alan Alber of Thornhill and Allan Carr of North York share ownership on Dance Hall Glory, who was a $13,000 yearling purchase at the Forest City Sale. Guelph resident Duane Marfisi trains Dance Hall Glory and set the stage for Tuesday’s elimination victory with a qualifying win at Mohawk on June 21.

The final Gold Elimination went to Indigo Sakra and trotting master Trevor Ritchie who impressed Mohawk fans by flying out of Post 9 to take command and sailing away to a one and three-quarter length victory in 2:00.2.

Blair Burgess trains Indigo Sakra for Irving and Judith Levit of Columbus, NJ. The Striking Sahbra daughter was one of the few fillies who went into the elimination battle with a race under her belt, a third-place finish in a division of the Acorn Stakes on June 29 at The Meadowlands.

Sears Tower finished second in the sixth race and Armbro Deliberate trotted into third, but did not draw into the July 11 Gold Final, earning the first also eligible position.

With only the top two finishers from each Gold Elimination, and two of the third-place finishers, advancing to next Monday’s Gold Final the competition should be tough for the first $130,000 purse on the freshman trotting fillies’ schedule.
