FRASERVILLE, ON — In Trepid Water extended her flawless sophomore record to six with a track record equalling performance in the $130,000 Gold Final at Kawartha Downs on Tuesday.

The three-year-old pacing filly and driver Rick Zeron wasted no time taking command of the race, speeding to a :27.3 opening quarter from Post 5. Through the :56.4 half and the 1:24.3 three-quarters, In Trepid Water maintained a one length margin on the field without breaking a sweat and then powered down the stretch to a 1:52.3 victory.

Fan favourite To Helen Back sat in In Trepid Water’s wake throughout the mile, but could not reel her in and had to settle for second. Stonebridge Luau, owned by Oak Knoll Stables of Campbellcroft, survived a trip around the outside of the five-eighths mile oval to earn third-place honours.

In Trepid Water’s victory matched the 1:52.3 track record set by Fernbank Fiona in a 2001 Gold Elimination and made believers out of those who had pushed To Helen Back into favoured status.

Trainer Bob McIntosh of LaSalle bred and owns the talented filly with his longtime partners CSX Stable of Liberty Center, OH. McIntosh also trained the filly’s dam Water Spigot and her sire Intrepid Seelster, who was an Ontario Sires Stakes star in 1999 and 2000 and went on to win more than $1 million.

Fans who were confident that In Trepid Water could extend her win streak to six earned $4.60 on a win wager, $2.60 for a place voucher and $2.10 if they selected her to show. Those who opted for To Helen Back earned $2.50 to place and $2.40 to show and fans who stuck with local filly Stonebridge Luau collected $3.50 for their show wagers.

The In Trepid Water and To Helen Back exactor returned $13.10 and the triactor was worth $64.30. Adding fourth-place finisher Letmedowneasy to the top three fillies to create a superfecta play earned fans $341.05.

In Trepid Water will have her first opportunity to defend her Gold Final crown on June 12 at Woodbine Ractrack. Ontario Sires Stakes excitement returns to Kawartha Downs on Thursday, June 22 with Grassroots action for the two-year-old pacing colts.
