CAMPBELLVILLE, ON — Making it look as easy as a morning training mile, three-year-old pacing filly In Trepid Water sailed to her second straight Gold Final triumph and eighth straight victory at Mohawk Racetrack Sunday evening.
Starting from Post 6, with the other three elimination winners to her inside, In Trepid Water had settled into fourth when Stunning Beauty reached the opening quarter in :26.4. However, the fan favourite and driver Rick Zeron did not leave the Mohawk crowd speculating about their intentions for long, powering to the front well before the :55.2 halfway marker.
On top by one and a half lengths at the 1:23.2 three-quarters In Trepid Water proceeded to accelerate down the stretch to a 1:51.4 victory, three-quarters of a length ahead of elimination winner Even Now. Elimination winner To Helen Back rounded out the top three, one and a half lengths behind In Trepid Water, while the other elimination winner, Stonebridge Prima, failed to fire for Sunday’s contest and finished at the back of the 10 filly field.
Sunday’s triumph extended In Trepid Water’s flawless season to eight wins in eight starts and matched the personal best she recorded at Woodbine Racetrack in the opening leg of the Ontario Sires Spring Series on May 2. The daughter of Intrepid Seelster and Water Spigot has only missed the winner’s circle once in her 10 race career and has earnings of $218,660 to show for her efforts.
Trainer Bob McIntosh of LaSalle and C S X Stables of Liberty Center, OH bred and own the talented filly, who counts $100,000-plus winners Watering Can and Waterproof among her siblings.
In Trepid Water will attempt to continue her domination of the three-year-old pacing filly ranks on Sunday, July 2 when the Gold Series makes a stop at her hometown oval, Windsor Raceway. She currently sits atop the division point standings with a perfect 200, 88 points ahead of To Helen Back.
Ontario Sires Stakes action also returns to Mohawk Racetrack’s summer meet on Sunday, July 2, when the Campbellville oval welcomes the exciting two-year-old pacing colts in their second Gold Series event of the season.
