LONDON, ON — Western Fair Raceway fans were treated to their third straight dose of record setting action by Ontario Sires Stakes competitors on Friday when three-year-old trotting filly Oaklea Omega cruised to a 1:59.1 victory in the first of two $49,000 Gold Eliminations.

With Mr. OSS’ Dave Wall in the race bike, the Balanced Image miss powered directly to the front from Post 3 and never faced a challenge as she sailed across the finish line two lengths ahead of Geisha Hall, Corries Glory and Meadowview Tiffy.

The win shaved one-fifth of a second off one of Western Fair Raceway’s longest standing track records, a 1:59.2 mile clocked in June of 1994 by Wall and Go To The Top.

John Bax trains and shares ownership on Oaklea Omega with Brilo Farms of Sharon, Glenn Van Camp of Port Perry and Venture K Stable of Little Britain. Unfortunately things did not go as well for the Peterborough based horseman in the second elimination as reigning Gold Final champion Oaklea Odessa made a break at the start and again turning for home and finished at the back of the seven filly field.

Fan favourites Steve Condren and Pure Ivory took full advantage of Oaklea Odessa’s misfortune, posting their second straight victory with a 2:01 effort. Leaving from Post 4, Condren settled the Striking Sahbra daughter in fourth on the rail as Porsche Hall took the field to a :30.1 opening quarter, then sent her after the lead heading for the 1:00.4 half.

One and a half lengths on top by the 1:31.1 three-quarters, Pure Ivory battled a determined Porsche Hall down the stretch, but was able to hang on for a neck victory. Birminghim and Spirit Of The Law were four lengths behind the leaders in third and fourth.

Milton resident Condren shares ownership on Pure Ivory with Jerry Vanboekel of Bright, breeder Harry Rutherford of Mount Pleasant and Christine Maxwell of Cambridge. Brad Maxwell trains the filly, who captured Canada’s two-year-old Trotting Filly of the Year award last season with her record of 10 wins, one second, one third and earnings of $465,804 in 14 starts.

Maxwell will have an opportunity to replicate the one-two finish Bax achieved with Oaklea Odessa and Oaklea Omega in the first Gold Final. In addition to Pure Ivory he trains Meadowview Tiffy for breeder Meadowview Farms Inc. of Orono.

The top four finishers from each elimination will return to Western Fair Raceway next Friday, June 30 for the second $130,000 Gold Final on their 2006 schedule. Elimination winners Oaklea Omega and Pure Ivory will go head to head from Posts 2 and 3, with the rest of the field lining up as follows:
