FRASERVILLE, ON — Carl Jamieson dropped a trio of two-year-old trotting fillies down from the Gold Series into Tuesday night’s Grassroots event at Kawartha Downs and the young trotters called on their experience in the Ontario Sires Stakes program’s upper echelons to deliver three wins and a track record.
Jamieson started the evening in winning fashion when Disco Inferno captured the first of eight $15,000 Grassroots divisions. Jody Jamieson piloted the Striking Sahbra daughter to a 12 length triumph in 1:59.1, lowering Suspicious Image’s 1992 track record by three-fifths of a second.
Quick Sight carved the early fractions in the record setting mile, but could not keep up when Disco Inferno shifted into high gear and had to settle for second. Lily V was another length and a half back in third.
Princeton resident Carl Jamieson shares ownership on Disco Inferno with breeder Dr. Robert Boyce of London. The half-sister to $205,040 winner Bebop and $130,577 winner Lexus Lulu boosted her freshman record to two wins and one second in five starts, adding a Grassroots trophy to the Gold Elimination hardware she claimed at Windsor Raceway on July 16.
One race later the Jamieson’s were back in the winner’s circle with J M Aggie, having lowered the track record for two-year-old trotting fillies they set in the first race by a full second.
Leaving from Post 4, Jody Jamieson sent J M Aggie straight to the front and the filly rocked around the Kawartha oval to a 21 and a half length victory in a track record 1:58.1. Fallon Seelster and Heads Up Play trailed in well back of the record setter in second and third.
Carl Jamieson and 1140545 Ontario Ltd. of Dundas own J M Aggie, who was third in her July 16 Gold Elimination and the July 23 Gold Final at Windsor Raceway. The Angus Hall daughter now sports a record of one win, one second and two thirds in five starts for earnings of $35,626.
Completing the hat trick for the Jamieson’s was Duchess Of York, who hit the wire a modest five and one-quarter lengths ahead of Berndt Sugar in 2:00.4. J M Renee was 12 and a half lengths behind the winner in third.
Owned by Carl Jamieson, Thomas Kyron of Etobicoke, Edward Smith of Rockwood and Brian Paquet of Quebec, QC, Duchess Of York captured an elimination of the Gold Series season opener at Flamboro Downs on July 1 then finished fourth in her next two Gold Series outings. The Duke Of York daughter has earned $37,536 for her connections through four starts.
Once the Jamieson’s had completed their trophy acquisition, trainer-driver Wayne Henry piloted Windsong Destiny to a 2:03.3 victory in the fourth race. The Malabar Maple filly, owned by the Henry Stable of Arthur, hit the wire two lengths up on Rainy Day Maple and S A Saratoga.
The other four Grassroots divisions went to Carolyn As in 2:01.3, Armbro Exuberant in 2:02.3, Maple Missy in 2:01.1 and Yorkys Girl in 2:03.4.
The two-year-old trotting fillies return to Grassroots action on Aug. 11 at Quinte Exhibition Raceway, while the Ontario Sires Stakes program does not return to Kawartha Downs until Thursday, Sept. 21 with the last Grassroots event for the three-year-old trotting colts.
