GLOUCESTER, ON — When the two-year-old trotting fillies line up behind the Rideau Carleton Raceway starting gate on Sunday evening three of them will be flying the Henry Stable’s brown and gold colours, including early favourite Tymal Timeout.
“She’s been nice all the way through,” says trainer Wayne Henry of Tymal Timeout. “She’s a little ahead of the other two.”
Tymal Timeout captured her elimination last weekend with a 2:00.3 front end effort and will return to the advantageous Post 1 in Sunday’s $130,000 Gold Final. Henry will also drive the Royal Strength daughter and the Arthur resident says he has a variety of strategies at his disposal aboard the talented youngster.
“She can leave, but you don’t have to leave if you don’t want to, and she’ll sit in a hole,” he explains, adding that Tymal Timeout is far more versatile than her full sister Lookit, who earned $101,513 in the Ontario Sires Stakes under his father Ross Henry’s tutelage.
“She is a lot easier than her sister,” he explains. “Her sister could leave the gate, but wasn’t very good at sitting.”
Henry, his father Ross and brother Trevor share ownership on Tymal Timeout through their Henry Stable with Daniel McCann of Parkhill. In six starts the filly has been bested on only one occasion, finishing a barely beaten second in the July 8 Gold Final at Flamboro Downs.
The trio also own Windsong Darling, who finished hot on her stablemate’s heels in last weekend’s elimination and will start from the outside Post 8 in Sunday’s sixth race.
“She stepped up, she was right there, just three-quarters of a length behind the other one,” notes Henry. “She’s come around a bit. She’s not a bad little mare.”
Although she has yet to find her way to the winner’s circle, Windsong Darling has only finished out of the top three on one occasion, the July 16 Gold Elimination at Windsor Raceway where she made a break at the start that knocked her out of contention.
“She’s been good, except for Windsor, when I drove her,” says Henry with a chuckle.
Trevor Henry has piloted the CR Renegade daughter in three of her five starts, including last week’s runner-up effort, and will return to the race bike on Sunday.
The Henry Stable’s third starter, Malahide, will get the services of Sylvain Filion on Sunday and the pair will start from Post 6. Third behind Corporate Girl in last week’s elimination round, Malahide will be looking to continue the steady improvement she has shown through her first four starts.
“She isn’t too bad. She isn’t quite the same calibre as the other two, but I think she’ll make a nice mare next year,” says Henry of the Duke Of York daughter.
The Henry fillies and their six rivals will battle for Gold Series honour in the sixth race on Rideau Carleton Raceway’s Sunday evening program, which gets under way at 6:30 pm.
