FLAMBORO, ON — Don’t You Smile recorded her second Gold Elimination win of the season on Saturday afternoon at Flamboro Downs, clocking the fastest mile of three $38,096 eliminations.

Leaving from the advantageous Post 1, driver Jody Jamieson settled Don’t You Smile in third as Southwind Madonna took the field of three-year-old pacing fillies to a :27.1 opening quarter. Through the :56 half the young reinsman was content to let Southwind Madonna do all the hard work on the front end, but heading for the 1:24.2 three-quarters he moved Don’t You Smile to the outside and started to pressure the leader.

As the fillies paced around the final turn Southwind Madonna maintained her lead, but Don’t You Smile continued to battle and eventually wore the pacesetter down, getting a nose in front at the wire in 1:53.2. Letmedowneasy finished a length behind the leaders in third.

Just one-fifth of a second off Flamboro Downs’ track record for sophomore fillies, the mile was Don’t You Smile’s second win through 11 starts this season. Princeton resident Carl Jamieson trains the Grinfromeartoear daughter for his partners Fred Brayford of Alliston, Thomas Kyron of Etobicoke and the George Arthur Stable of Rockwood.

Jamieson qualified a second filly for next Saturday’s $130,000 Gold Final when Ja El Astrelegant finished second to Bold Bidder in the first Gold Elimination. Like Don’t You Smile, Bold Bidder and driver Luc Ouellette started from Post 1, dogged the footsteps of pacesetter Alias Seelster and then swept by in the stretch to log the 1:55 win by one length.

Fancy A Dream, owned by Norman Keyes of Mississauga and Julie and David Keyes of Milton, rounded out the top three.

Bold Bidder was also making her second visit to the winner’s circle this season. The Grinfromeartoear daughter captured her elimination of the Canadian Breeders Championship at Mohawk Racetrack on July 21. John Pentland trains the winner of $153,269 for Karen Carroll of Shedden.

The final elimination went to Draconian Promise and Kevin Wallis, who posted a 1:54.3 victory after saving ground behind pacesetter Prairie Tracker. Dolphins Can Talk and Even Now snared the last two positions in next Saturday’s Gold Final with their second and third-place performances.

Owned by Cully Keetch and Lawrence Simon of Hamilton, Draconian Promise boosted her record to two wins and three seconds through nine starts with the win. Jason McGinnis trains the Rustler Hanover lass, who will start from Post 6 in next weekend’s Gold Final. The other elimination winners, Bold Bidder and Don’t You Smile, will line up from Posts 3 and 9.
