CAMPBELLVILLE, ON — A two-time winner at the Grassroots level, Carolyn AS made a successful leap up to the Gold Series at Mohawk Racetrack on Sunday evening, capturing her elimination in an impressive 1:58.1.

Leaving from Post 3, Steven Skilton settled Carolyn AS in fourth spot on the rail as J M Aggie rolled the field of two-year-old trotting fillies through fractions of :28.3, :59.2 and 1:28.3. Heading for the three-quarter marker, Skilton popped his mount out behind fan favourite Maple Sugar, and when that filly made a break at the top of the stretch Carolyn AS kept her composure and took aim on leaders J M Aggie and Windsong Darling.

A strong finishing kick propelled Carolyn AS down the stretch and under the wire a nose in front of Constance Hall and a quarter length ahead of J M Aggie in a smart 1:58.1.

Anette Lorentzon trains Carolyn AS for ACL Stuteri Inc., of Paris, KY. Through four starts the black daughter of Striking Sahbra and Indian Simb has tallied three wins and one third and Sunday’s triumph lowered her personal best by more than three seconds. Carolyn AS will try and make her fourth trip to the winner’s circle from Post 6 in next Sunday’s $130,000 Gold Final.

Reigning Gold Final champion Lakeside Bride was an effortless five length winner in the first $26,392 elimination. The Duke Of York daughter and driver Paul MacDonell accelerated away from Post 8 to a :29.1 opening quarter, hit the half in 1:00.1 and then fought off a challenge from Summer Drinks heading past the 1:30.2 three-quarters. Two lengths on top at the head of the lane, Lakeside Bride coasted under the wire well ahead of Duchess Of York and Summer Drinks in 1:59.1.

Breeder Al Libfeld of Pickering and Marvin Katz of Toronto share ownership on Lakeside Bride, who is trained by Dustin Jones. The half-sister to former Ontario sire King Conch, Lakeside Bride has three wins, one second and one third to her credit through five starts this season. The regally bred miss will defend her Gold Final title from Post 9 at Mohawk Racetrack next weekend.

Caught My Eye will also be looking for her second Gold Final crown after scoring a 1:59.3 victory over rival Tymal Timeout and To The Rescue in the second elimination on Sunday. The Angus Hall miss and veteran reinsman Bill O’Donnell wrestled control of the race away from Tymal Timeout heading for the half, disposed of challenger To The Rescue at the three-quarter pole and then cruised home to a three and a half length win.

Orton resident Frank O’Reilly trains Caught My Eye for his partners John Fielding of Toronto and John Ferguson of Windsor. The trio have watched their talented protege post wins in three Gold Eliminations and one Gold Final and finish second in one Gold Final and her Aug. 13 Robert Stewart Memorial division. Caught My Eye and O’Donnell will be hunting for their second Gold Final trophy from Post 2 on Aug. 27.

The final Gold Elimination went to Corporate Girl, who stuck a neck in front of Rapability and Striking Pockets to lead the parade of Striking Sahbra daughters across the wire in 2:01.1.

Dan Creighton trains Corporate Girl for his partners in the Danterra Racing Stable of Strathroy and Trevor Ritchie engineered her second Gold Elimination win of the season. The pair will be looking to improve on their Gold Final placing from Post 4 next week.

The top two finishers from each elimination, plus two third-place finishers selected by random draw, will return to Mohawk Racetrack on Sunday, Aug. 27 for their fourth Gold Final. The complete line up for next weekend’s $130,000 Gold Final is as follows:
