GLOUCESTER, ON — Porsche Hall delivered another impressive effort to capture the $96,017 three-year-old trotting filly Gold Elimination at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Thursday evening.
With their third decent post position in as many weeks, driver Terry Kerr sent Porsche Hall straight to the front from Post 5 and put up beautifully rated fractions of :29.3, :59.4 and 1:29. Oaklea Omega and John Bax sat in behind the pacesetter, forcing fan favourite Pure Ivory to endure a trip up the outside for the second week in a row.
Turning for home Porsche Hall was one and a half lengths in front of the favourite, but a smart :28.2 finishing kick propelled the reigning Gold Final champion to a one and three-quarter length victory in 1:57.2. Pure Ivory watched Porsche Hall’s heels for the second straight week and Oaklea Odessa overtook her stablemate Oaklea Omega to finish third, six and three-quarter lengths behind the winner.
The win was Porsche Hall’s first in Gold Elimination action and boosted her sophomore record to three wins, two seconds and one third in 12 starts for earnings of $182,957.
Sarnia resident Kerr trains and drives Porsche Hall for breeders Bet Max Stables Inc. of Casco, MI and Benenati Inc., of Clinton Township, MI. The talented young trotter is the fifth foal from the partner’s $167,886 winning broodmare Bankers Jackpot and a half-sister to $123,545 winner Bankers Princess.
In spite of Porsche Hall’s upset victory in the Aug. 14 Gold Final at Mohawk Racetrack, Rideau Carleton Raceway fans did not accord the filly much respect, sending her off as their fourth choice behind Pure Ivory, John Bax’s entry of Oaklea Odessa and Oaklea Omega, and Meadowview Tiffy, who finished seventh after making a series of breaks.
As a result Porsche Hall returned $13.70 to win, $5.20 to place and $3.40 to show. Pure Ivory’s runner-up effort was worth $3.30 on a place wager and $2.10 for a show ticket and Oaklea Odessa delivered $2.10 to show. The Porsche Hall – Pure Ivory exactor returned $25.90 and the triactor was worth $47.60.
With Spirit Of The Law scratched from Thursday’s Gold Elimination due to sickness, all nine fillies who started in the $96,017 event will return to Rideau Carleton Raceway on Thursday, Aug. 31 for their fourth run at a Gold Final title and the accompanying $130,000 purse.
