CLINTON, ON — Clinton Raceway fans were treated to an outstanding display of talent by the two-year-old pacing fillies on Sunday afternoon, capped off by a track record performance from Twin B Diva in the last of nine $15,000 Grassroots divisions.

Taking full advantage of Post 1, Jim Ainsworth fired Twin B Diva off the starting gate to a :28.4 opening quarter. Maintaining a two length advantage over her peers, the filly proceeded to lay down a :58.3 half and a 1:28.4 three-quarters. After sitting tucked in behind the pacesetter throughout the mile, Hold That Thought and Dave Wall mounted a stiff challenge in the stretch, but Twin B Diva stayed game and notched her second straight Grassroots win by a nose, in a track record 1:57.4.

Exquisite Alberta rounded out the top three, five and three-quarter lengths behind Twin B Diva and Hold That Thought, who is owned by Dwight Stacey of Mitchell, trainer Robert McIntosh of LaSalle and C S X Stables of Liberty Center, OH.

Twin B Diva’s mile knocked one and two-fifths of a second off the former two-year-old pacing filly track record of 1:59.1, held by Terra Cotta Rascal and Helena Handbag. The win was the Camluck daughter’s second straight in Grassroots action and boosted her into fifth spot in the division standings with a total of 130 points.

Sarnia resident Jim Ainsworth trains, drives and shares ownership on Twin B Diva with breeders Twinbrook Limited of Embro, Martwest Racing Stable of Mississauga and William Boden of Vancouver, BC.

Secret Grin vaulted to the top of the freshman pacing filly standings with a 2:00.2 victory in the fourth race. The Grinfromeartoear daughter and driver Robert Shepherd landed in fourth from Post 1 and then toured up the outside of the Clinton half-mile to score the one length victory over Iwishihadbaytsim and Cam The Torpedos.

Bruce MacDonald trains Secret Grin for Mardon Stables of Loretto. Through five starts the talented young pacer has only been bested on one occasion, when she made an uncharacteristic break in Grassroots action at Sudbury Downs on July 22.

Secret Grin’s 165 points put her 24 points ahead of Lil Motion, who was also a winner at Clinton on Sunday.

Bred, owned and trained by Stephen Gillard of Tavistock, Lil Motion was driven to victory by Jason Brewer, who captured five of the nine Grassroots divisions. Lil Motion overcame the trailing Post 8 and interference heading to the half to score the one and three-quarter length victory over Georgian Bay.

Val’s Vision, owned by Kenneth Raspin and Larry Jeffrey of Goderich and Gerry Sparling of West Hill, rounded out the top three.

In addition to Lil Motion, Brewer also appeared in the winner’s circle with On The Choo Choo, Ja El Cash Advance, Fysia and Just Her Way.

On The Choo Choo kicked off the freshman filly talent show in the first race with an impressive 1:58.3 victory over favourite Angel In Motion and Sammy Syd. Through six starts On The Choo Choo boasts a record of one win, three seconds and one third, and jumped into fifteenth spot the division standings with Sunday’s victory. Dan Creighton trains the daughter of Camluck and Bunting for Ross Holmes of Ilderton.

One race later Brewer and Ja El Cash Advance cruised under the wire four and a half lengths ahead of Cunning Stunts and St Lads Blastoff in 1:59.4. Woodstock resident David Leard trains and shares ownership on the Million Dollar Cam lass with Demelo Stables of Woodstock.

After capturing the third race with Lil Motion, Brewer picked up an overnight win in the fifth race, then returned to Grassroots glory with a 1:59 win aboard Fysia in Race 7.

Daryl Robert trains Fysia for his partners Mike Bannon and John Kwiatkoski of London and Donald Douglas of Ingersoll. The London resident started the Astreos daughter in the Gold Series, where she notched two thirds and one fourth in elimination action and a fourth in the Aug. 6 Gold Final. Dropping back to the Grassroots for the Aug. 17 event at Hiawatha Horse Park, Fysia picked up a victory and she currently sits in a three-way tie for eleventh in the point standings.

Brewer capped off his afternoon with a 2:00.2 triumph in Race 9 with Just Her Way, besting Ethereal Moment and Pilgrims Her Way by three-quarters of a length. Rodney Duford trains Just Her Way for breeder Larry Pollard of Harrow. Sunday’s win was the Camluck daughter’s second in Grassroots action and has her sitting tied for ninth in the race for one of 16 Semifinal berths.

The other Grassroots divisions went to Magic Maverick in 2:00.1 and Whitesand Scarlet in 2:00.

The two-year-old pacing fillies square off in their last Grassroots contest on Sept. 19 at Grand River Raceway, while Clinton Raceway hosts two more Grassroots events — two-year-old trotting colts on Sunday, Sept. 3 and three-year-old trotting colts on Sunday, Sept. 10.
