CAMPBELLVILLE, ON — When the two-year-old trotting fillies return to Mohawk Racetrack on Monday evening for their last $130,000 Gold Final, driver Jody Jamieson is hoping the residual effects of last week’s recall are still working on elimination winner J M Aggie.

“After the recall she drove with two fingers. It seemed to rattle her brain a little,” jokes the Dundas resident, who shares ownership on J M Aggie with his father, trainer Carl Jamieson of Princeton.

After causing the recall by ramming the starting gate, J M Aggie went on to an eight and three-quarter length victory in 2:00.1, her second straight win and third in eight starts.

“She kind of attacked the gate,” admits Jamieson. “She has been getting a little warm, she likes to leave, and she took a leap at the gate. We reset her and I put her back on the gate and she was perfect.”

J M Aggie will start from Post 7 in Monday’s Gold Final and her driver thinks it may be the ideal spot for the over anxious youngster.

“The seven-hole is the perfect spot for her,” he says. “There will be no surprises off the wings, she’ll want to leave. Last week she really relaxed in the middle of the mile, so hopefully she’ll do that again.”

The other elimination winners will line up to Jamieson’s left, Tymal Timeout from Post 4 and Constance Hall from Post 6, and the young reinsman figures the key to capturing the last Gold Final title of the season is pretty straightforward.

“There are a couple in there that are all right, but in this Final I think it’s pretty wide open,” he notes. “Whoever stays trotting the longest will be well off.”

With the fall yearling sales well under way, Jamieson and his father are already looking at fillies that could step into the Angus Hall daughter’s shoes next season and the horseman admits he has an advantage over the average yearling buyer.

“She’s been a pretty good mare for us. We’re always looking for one just like her, but it just depends on whether on not they come along,” he says. “Ideally I like to go down and help break them and see which one I like, then get in on one.”

The two-year-old trotting fillies square off in the fifth race at Mohawk Racetrack on Monday, with the first race going postward at 7:20 pm. With 111 points earned through one win, one second and three thirds in six Gold Series starts, J M Aggie sits sixth in the division point standings and has already secured her spot in the Oct. 14 Super Final. However several fillies in Monday’s Final are teetering on the threshold of the $300,000 season finale so the pressure on the young trotters will be intense as they attempt to extend their freshman campaign for two more weeks.
