CAMPBELLVILLE, ON — Majestic Son continued his march through the three-year-old trotting colt ranks with an effortless 1:56 victory in Gold Elimination action at Mohawk Racetrack on Friday evening.
With regular reinsman Trevor Ritchie in the race bike the Angus Hall son landed third in the field of six as MVS Grand Ballad led the colts to a :28.4 opening quarter. Heading by the :57.4 half, Ritchie sent Majestic Son after the lead and the reigning Gold Final champion had things in hand well before the 1:26.4 three-quarters.
The pair sailed home to a four and three-quarter victory over Investor, who delivered a game effort to recover from an early break and get up for second, and B Cor Rennegade.
Friday’s victory was Majestic Son’s sixth in Gold Series action and eleventh on the season. Mark Steacy trains the gifted trotter for the Majestic Son Stable of Lansdowne, who are still riding the wave of excitement the colt generated by capturing the $1 million Canadian Trotting Classic on Sept. 23.
The newly minted millionaire will go looking for his third straight Gold Final title from Post 4 in next Friday’s $130,000 showdown.
Swan Image captured the second Gold Elimination with a strong come from behind effort. The Balanced Image son and driver Mike Saftic reeled in pacesetter and fan favourite Was It A Dream in the stretch to earn the 1:55.2 victory by two and one-quarter lengths. Yorktown Gunner rounded out the top three.
Trained by Susanne Kerwood for C. And I. Siegel Racing Stable of Staten Island, Swan Image boasts a record of three wins, four seconds and two thirds in 15 starts this season for earnings of $93,221. Friday’s victory was his second in Gold Elimination action and boosted his point tally to 116, securing the gelding a berth in the Oct. 14 Super Final.
Swan Image’s best finish in a Gold Final was a fourth-place effort in the July 2 event at Rideau Carleton Raceway and the trotter will be looking to improve on that effort from Post 5 in next week’s regular season finale.
