INNISFIL, ON — Tymal Trinity rocketed to the forefront of the three-year-old pacing filly class on Tuesday with an outstanding 1:52.4 victory in the Grassroots season opener at Georgian Downs.

Leaving from the outside Post 8, Tymal Trinity and driver Rick Zeron sat well off the sharp early pace set by Maman I Miss You. Heading toward the :56.3 half, Zeron sent the filly up the outside, taking advantage of the cover provided by fan favourite On The Choo Choo and longshot Just Her Way.

By the top of the stretch Tymal Trinity was within striking range, and the Mach Three daughter delivered an impressive finishing kick to hit the wire eight lengths ahead of Just Her Way and On The Choo Choo, and one-fifth of a second off the sophomore pacing filly track record set by Lady Dillinger in 2005.

North York resident Marty Fine trains Tymal Trinity for the Onlineharnessowner Com 4 group of Uxbridge. Fine prepped the freshman Gold Elimination winner for Tuesday’s contest with a pair of qualifiers at Mohawk Racetrack.

Secret Grin also delivered a come-from-behind effort to claim the Grassroots trophy in the second division. The Grinfromeartoear daughter and driver Phil Hudon did all their work on the outside to claim a one length, 1:54.4 victory for Mardon Stables of Loretto. Spun Sugar and Whitesand Scarlet rounded out the top three.

Bruce MacDonald of Alliston trains Secret Grin for Mardon Stables, and readied the winner of $92,396 for her provincial debut with a trio of starts at Woodbine Racetrack.

Both Zeron and Hudon made a second trip to the Georgian Downs winner’s circle on Tuesday. Zeron piloted Crazy She Calls Me to a 1:55 score in Race 3 for trainer Duane Marfisi of Guelph and his partners Offshore Racing of Burlington, Aaron Waxman of Hamilton and Alan Alber of Thornhill.

Six races later Hudon teamed up with Northern Blue to engineer a three-quarter length upset over favourite Yankee Butter. The 1:54.4 victory was Northern Blue’s first lifetime win in 11 attempts. Kevin Benn trains the Northern Luck miss for his Benn Stables and partner Dennis Chadwick of Napanee.

The other three Grassroots winners were Breathdefying in 1:55, Twin B Diva in 1:53.2 and Lovely Astro in 1:54.3.

The three-year-old pacing fillies make the second stop on their 2007 Grassroots tour at Flamboro Downs on June 27, while Ontario Sires Stakes actions returns to Georgian Downs on Saturday, June 23 with the Gold Series season opener for the gifted three-year-old trotting fillies.
