INNISFIL, ON — As expected, the two-year-old trotting fillies put on an impressive show in Gold Elimination action at Georgian Downs on Tuesday evening.

All four of the eliminations clocked in faster than the 2:00.1 track record set by Whitesand Electra in 2006, with Torch earning the title of new record holder for her 1:59 score in the last split.

Leaving from Post 8 in the eight filly field, driver Jody Jamieson floated Torch off the wings and landed in fourth on the rail as Hornby Gem posted a :29 opening quarter and :59.1 half. Heading for the 1:29 three-quarters, Jamieson sent Torch up the outside and the filly had a head in front as she squared up for the drive to the wire.

Sprinting down the stretch, Torch and Jamieson expanded their lead, hitting the finish line one and three-quarter lengths in front of Windsun Magical and four and one-quarter lengths ahead of favourite Curious Bean.

Princeton resident Carl Jamieson shares ownership on Torch with Ken Henwood of Mississauga. Jamieson, the 2006 O’Brien Award winner for Horsemanship, purchased the daughter of Kadabra and Red Hot And Blue for $50,000 at last fall’s Canadian Open Yearling Sale and the filly has already earned $35,573 through Tuesday’s Gold Elimination victory and her 2:02.4 triumph in the Flamboro Breeders Stakes on July 1.

Somebody To Love kicked off the speed show with a 1:59.2 score in the first $29,362 elimination, laying down a :29.1 last quarter to eke out a head decision over Emerald Island.

Paul MacDonell drove the daughter of Angus Hall and $529,694 winner Pick Me Up to the victory for Mentally Stable Inc. of Delray Beach. Darren McCall trains the impeccably bred youngster, who came into Tuesday’s contest off a July 4 qualifier at The Meadowlands that saw her make a break at the wire.

In Fine Form finished third in the first Gold Elimination, six and a half lengths behind the duelling leaders, and won the draw between the third-place finishers to earn a berth in next Tuesday’s $130,000 Gold Final.

Veteran reinsman Steve Condren piloted Beyond Limits to victory from Post 1 in the second elimination, also stopping the clock at 1:59.2. The fan favourites cruised under the wire four and one-quarter lengths ahead of B Cor Reba and Nashotah.

Scott McEneny trains Angus Hall miss Beyond Limits, a $42,000 yearling purchase, for the Beyond Limits Stable of Toronto, Stephen Moza of Kelowna, BC and Joe Tinelli of Edmonton, AB.

Dornello matched Beyond Limits and Somebody To Love’s efforts with a 1:59.2 score of her own in the third elimination. The daughter of Angus Hall and $743,350 winner Me Maggie cruised along on the front end to a two length victory over Delphic and Tymal Mystique. Trevor Ritchie piloted the fan favourite to the win for trainer David Tingley and breeders Peninsula Farm Inc. of Lexington, KY and Arden Homestead Stable of Delhi, NY.
