LONDON, ON — Bella Dolce started a little further along the Western Fair Raceway starting gate on Friday evening, but the two-year-old trotting filly delivered the same result as last week, trotting to an effortless three length Gold Final victory.

From Post 6 the Kadabra daughter and Paul MacDonell were not able to control every fraction, the way they did from the rail in the elimination round, but by the time the field reached the halfway marker, it was once again Bella Dolce showing the way.

Soon after Its Fine Form rang up the :30.2 opening quarter MacDonell had Bella Dolce on the move from fourth, and the fan favourite was two and a half lengths on top by the 1:00.2 half. In Fine Form tried to press the pace from the outside to the 1:30.2 three-quarters, but Bella Dolce was able to draw away in the stretch to a three length victory in 2:01.

Driver Trevor Ritchie and In Fine Form, owned by Craig Turner and Mhairi Kersel of Ingersoll and trainer William Hamm of Wallacetown, stayed game for second, while Its My Time and Rick Zeron earned the third-place finisher’s share of the $130,000 Gold Final purse.

Bella Dolce now boasts a record of seven wins in eight starts, with her only loss coming in the Sept. 16 Oakville Final at Mohawk Racetrack. She is a two-time Gold Elimination winner, a two-time Gold Final champion, a winner of her Oakville Elimination and divisions of the Robert Stewart and Champlain Stakes. The precocious daughter of Kadabra and $668,824 winner Pizza Dolce has banked $310,297 in her career.

Richard Norman trains Bella Dolce for owner and breeder David McDuffee of Nashua, NH. The filly will put her perfect Ontario Sires Stakes record on the line in the season ending Super Final at Woodbine Racetrack on Nov. 10, when the top 10 point earners from the Gold Series regular season will battle in the $300,000 championship.

Bella Dolce’s four victories put her third in the point standings, behind Torch and Dornello, who captured Gold Finals earlier in the season.

Western Fair Raceway will host one last provincial skirmish in 2007, when the three-year-old trotting fillies gather on Saturday, Nov. 3 for their final Trillium Series event.
