CAMPBELLVILLE, ON — Freshman sons of No Pan Intended formed an exclusive club at Mohawk Racetrack on Sunday evening, crowding into the winner’s circle after all three $40,000 Gold Eliminations.

OK Boromir kicked off the sweep by sons of the second year sire with a confident front end performance for driver Gene Piroski. The pair took command of the race heading for the :58 half and never had cause to look back as they cruised home one and three-quarter length winners in 1:55.3.

Favourite Riopelle was unable to reel in OK Boromir and had to settle for second, while his stablemate in the Carl Jamieson barn, Windsong Fortune, overcame Post 10 to earn third-place honours.

A $14,000 bargain at last fall’s Forest City Yearling Sale, OK Boromir is the first foal of former Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Final winner Double Creme, who banked $415,049 in her career. Thamesford resident Frank Baker, Jr. trains the colt for his partner Wray Wilson of Thorndale, and sent OK Boromir out in one qualifier and one overnight event at Hiawatha Horse Park in preparation for his Gold Series debut. The colt captured his June 28 qualifier in 1:57.2 and his July 5 racing debut in a smart 1:54.4.

Piroski will steer OK Boromir from Post 6 in next Sunday’s $120,000 Gold Final, while Riopelle and Windsong Fortune are saddled with Posts 9 and 10. Fourth-place finisher Lost Catalogues, another son of No Pan Intended, will join his peers on the starting gate next week after winning the draw for the last spot in the Gold Final.

Two races later Steve Condren opted for the front-end approach with Nebupanezzar and the youngster delivered an impressive effort to claim the 1:54.1 victory. Starting from Post 3, Nebupanezzar was third when The Boss reached the :28.1 opening quarter, but Condren quickly sent him after the lead and the pair were one and a half lengths on top at the :57.4 half.

Uncle Bill Mac made a run for the front heading by the 1:26.2 three-quarters, but Nebupanezzar sent the challenger packing and pulled away from the field around the last turn, pacing down the stretch to a one and one-quarter length victory over a hard charging World Away and pocket-sitter Shipps Xpectancy.

Bob McIntosh trains Nebupanezzar for breeder Peter Pan Stables Inc. of Pepper Pike, OH. The LaSalle resident qualified the colt at Mohawk Racetrack on July 28, where Nebupanezzar was a 1:59.3 winner, then sent him to Grand River Raceway for a July 4 overnight. Making a break off the gate, the colt spotted the field more than 17 lengths, but quickly regained his composure and sprinted home to finish fifth in the 1:59.4 mile.

The son of $228,403 Western Wonder, Nebupanezzar is a full-brother to sophomore Gold Series regular The Mohegan Pan, who has banked $260,957 in his two year racing career. Condren will send the colt after a second victory from Post 2 in the Gold Final.

Completing the No Pan Intended sweep was Silver Sunset, who was promoted to the winner’s circle when Medoland Machoman interfered with L H Remachable in the hair-raising stretch duel that saw the three colts finish within a nose of each other.

Silver Sunset was purchased from the Forest City Sale for $70,000 by Burnaby, BC resident Niele Jiwan, who entrusted the colt’s education to trainer John Pentland. The third foal of $354,479 winner Silver Seven — also a Gold Series winner in her career — had delivered two modest qualifiers at Mohawk and a sixth-place finish in a July 8 overnight won by Medoland Machoman prior to Sunday’s victory.

Silver Sunset, whose siblings Golden Seven ($235,241) and Gold Not Silver ($114,326) were also successful in the Ontario Sires Stakes, will make his second straight start from Post 8 in next weekend’s Gold Final. Runner-up L H Remachable moves into Post 4 and third-place finisher Medoland Machoman will benefit from the advantageous Post 1.
