FRASERVILLE, ON — Off a confident steer by reinsman Jack Moiseyev, three-year-old trotting gelding Lexis Noah cruised home to his second straight Gold Final victory with a 1:55.3 clocking at Kawartha Downs on Tuesday.
Kawartha Downs fans sent the reigning Gold Final champ off as their second choice behind locally owned Text Me, but Moiseyev made it clear in the early going that he did not intend to play second fiddle. Starting from Post 1, the veteran reinsman settled Lexis Noah into third as elimination winner Windsun Galaxie and Windsong Geant battled to a :28.2 quarter.
As the field swept by the grandstand for the first time Moiseyev sent Lexis Noah to the front and the Malabar Maple son easily wrested command from Windsun Galaxie and reached the :58 half with a length and a half lead. The gelding continued to sail along on the front end through the 1:26.3 three-quarters as Moffat, ON resident Moiseyev kept an eye on Windsong Geant, who was leading a parade of colts up the outside that included fan favourite Text Me.
Unable to make any headway on the leader, Windsong Geant stalled on the outside, pushing the challengers behind him out three-wide around the final turn. Turning for home Lexis Noah sported a two length lead and the trotter was able to add one-quarter length to that margin before reaching the wire unchallenged in 1:55.3.
Windsun Galaxie reached the wire in second, but was off stride through much of the stretch and was placed back to sixth. As a result Text Me, owned by Dave Boyle of Bowmanville, ON, trainer Bob McIntosh of Windsor, ON and C S X Stables of Liberty Center, OH, was promoted to second, and Arriba Amigo was bumped up to third. Watkins, who is owned by Idylwood Stables Inc. of Peterborough, ON and Watkins Equine Inc. of Newcastle, ON, moved from fifth to fourth and Grumpy Jake was advanced into the final cheque earner’s position.
Lexis Noah’s front end effort delivered a second straight Gold Final trophy into the hands of Caledon, ON resident Norm Dunstan, who bred, owns and trains the talented young trotter. Through 20 starts this season Lexis Noah has accumulated seven wins, four seconds and two thirds for earnings of $208,760, and in his last five starts the gelding has finished no worse than third.
Heading into the Nov. 13 Super Final at Woodbine Racetrack, Lexis Noah is ranked fourth in the division standings with 145 points through the five regular season Gold Series events. The top 10 point earners will compete in the $300,000 Super Final.
Tuesday’s Gold Final wrapped up Kawartha Downs’ 2010 Ontario Sires Stakes season, which saw the Fraserville oval play host to two Gold Series divisions and four different Grassroots events.
