OTTAWA, ON — Ontario’s two-year-old pacers were sizzling in Gold Final action at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday evening.
Right from the earliest moments of the pacing filly Gold Final Ottawa area fans knew they were going to witness a speed show. Both Miss Coco Luck from Post 1 and Adventurepan from Post 5 were keen to control the pace and battled to a :27.1 opening quarter.
Adventurepan won the battle and led the field to a more sedate :57 half, rolling up behind her however was elimination winner and fan favourite Right On Molly, who had watched the early duel from fourth. Although Adventurepan clocked the 1:24.3 three-quarters, the pacesetter soon handed the baton over to Right On Molly, who accelerated away to a two and three-quarter length victory in 1:53.2.
Kims Royal Day closed well to earn second-place honours, leaving Adventurepan to settle for third, six lengths behind the winner.
Jody Jamieson engineered Right On Molly’s third straight victory for trainer Otis Hall’s Nasussito Racing Inc. of Ayr and his father Larry Hall’s Sauble Hill Farms of Tara. The daughter of Stonebridge Regal and Right On started her Ontario Sires Stakes career with a win at the Grassroots level, touring Mohawk Racetrack in 1:55.2 on July 1, and then captured last week’s Gold Elimination at Rideau Carleton in 1:55.
Sunday’s victory stripped almost two full seconds off the filly’s personal best and boosted her bank balance to $97,000. The Hall’s purchased Right On Molly at last fall’s Forest City Yearling Sale for a modest $5,000.
Three races later the two-year-old pacing colts stepped to centre stage and Anthony MacDonald wasted no time getting elimination winner Mach Pride onto the front end. The fan favourites led through fractions of :26.4, :56.2 and 1:24 before fending off a challenge from pocket sitter Windsong Jack in the stretch and ringing up a one-half length victory in 1:52.3, just two-fifths of a second off the track and Ontario Sires Stakes record. Southwind Amazon was three more lengths back in third.
Louie Eftimiadis conditions Mach Pride for Gerald Mijal of Westland, MI, who purchased the son of Mach Three and Cyber Wave as a weanling. Through six starts the talented youngster now boasts four wins, one second and one third for earnings of $126,000. Sunday’s triumph lowered his personal best, set in last week’s elimination round, by two-fifths of a second.
Right On Molly will not begin defence of her Gold Final title until Sept. 7, when the two-year-old pacing fillies invade Grand River Raceway for their third Gold Series event. Like his feminine counterpart, Mach Pride will have to wait until September to collect a fourth Gold Series trophy. The two-year-old pacing colts begin their third Gold Series battle on Sept. 8 at Flamboro Downs.
Ontario Sires Stakes action returns to the nation’s capital on Friday, Aug. 17 when Rideau Carleton Raceway welcomes the gifted two-year-old trotting fillies for their fourth Gold Series contest.
