INNISFIL, ON — Murray Brethour trainee Justabit Mean improved on her result from the season opening Grassroots event with a 1:56.3 score at Georgian Downs on Tuesday, July 9.

Justabit Mean came from behind to finish second in last week’s two-year-old pacing filly test, but driver Jody Jamieson opted to control the pace on Tuesday evening. The duo reached the front before the halfway marker and sailed home four and one-quarter lengths ahead of their peers in the second division. Sunderland resident Brethour shares ownership of the Mach Three daughter with Noblock Racing Stable of Collingwood and breeder David Heffering of Port Perry.

Moffat resident Jamieson also piloted Savhorsrideacowboy to victory in the last $12,857 Grassroots division, halting the Georgian Downs teletimer at 1:56.1. James Graham trains the Mister Big filly for breeder Margaret Payne of Florida.

Driver Mario Baillargeon and trainer Martin Lachance teamed up for a pair of Grassroots victories on Tuesday. In the fifth division Baillargeon piloted Lachance trainee Born To Dream to her first lifetime win, cruising home in 1:56.1, and in the sixth division the duo landed Ramblin Rose in the winner’s circle for the second straight week; the 1:56 win giving the Artistic Fella daughter sole ownership of top spot in the freshman pacing filly division. Both fillies are owned by breeder Lomangino Standardbreds of New Jersey.

Not wanting to be outdone by his peers, driver Scott Zeron also piloted two Grassroots winners. The Oakville resident scored in the first split with Momara, who paced to a sharp 1:55.2 mile, and in the fourth division with Rodena, who also hit the wire in 1:55.2.

The other Grassroots division was captured by Shes A Hotmama in 1:56.2.

The two-year-old pacing fillies make their third Grassroots start at Mohawk Racetrack on July 22. Ontario Sires Stakes excitement returns to Georgian Downs on Saturday, July 13 when the two-year-old trotting fillies arrive in Innisfil for their second Grassroots event.
