Several talented two-year-old Ontario-sired colts and fillies will take on Grand Circuit rivals in tonight’s Eternal Camnation and Nassagaweya divisions at Mohawk.
In the $91,425 second Nassagaweya division for the colts Go Daddy Go will make his first appearance since winning the Battle Of Waterloo final on Industry Day at Grand River Raceway. Hall of Famer John Campbell will be back in the bike behind the son of Ponder for Hall of Famer Bob McIntosh who trains and co-owns with Dave Boyle of Bowmanville, Ontario.
“I liked him from the beginning, he impressed me early and never had a bad day,” noted McIntosh. “He looked like a good horse when he came in from the field, he was my pick of the litter.”
Go Daddy Go, who is eligible to the rich Metro Stakes coming up at Mohawk, has yet to finish off the board this season with a summary of 2-2-1 in five starts. He’s drawn post seven in the ninth race.
The final Nassagaweya division features two time OSS Gold winner Sporting The Look from post two. Jody Jamieson will steer for father Carl who trains and co-owns with breeder 30 Plus Stable of Trenton and Tom Kyron of Toronto, Ontario.
“He was the only Canadian sired pacer that my dad paid into the Grand Circuit and American races,” Jody told WEG media earlier this week. “So it’s obviously fun to be in them, especially right here at home, he’s a nice horse, we will see how nice he is coming up on Saturday.”
The other Ontario-sired colt competing in the Nassagaweya is Sports Bettor who has post eight in the first division, race six, for trainer Mark Austin and owner Frank Gentile of Quebec. Randy Waples will drive the son of Sportswriter.
There are a total of seven Ontario-sired fillies vying for a spot in the Eternal Camnation winner’s circle. The first test, race two, features Betty And The Jets (Jeremes Jet) from post three and Missy Tap Tina (Mister Big) in post seven. The second division finds Shes Dignified (Your Nemesis) from the rail and Cowboy Tough (Ponder) in post four.
The final Eternal Camnation split, race five, features a trio of OSS regulars in Palette Tina (Allamerican Native) with post one, Solar Sister (Mach Three) in post two and Code One Hanover (Sportswriter) with the nine hole.
Also of note for OSS watchers is the 12th race, a $25,000 event for three-year-olds, which features Jet Airway in post seven. That Jeremes Jet colt has won three OSS Gold events to date this year including back to back efforts at Mohawk and Grand River in his most recent starts.
OSS action continues over the weekend with the two-year-old trotting colts in action at Georgian Downs in six $18,000 Grassroots divisions. There’s an OSS double header Sunday with the rookie trotting fillies in action at Clinton Sunday afternoon in seven Grassroots races. The action shifts to Georgian that event for five Grassroots events for the sophomore pacing fillies.
