The four Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots races for three-year-old pacing fillies that were cancelled on at Grand River Wednesday night due to unsafe track conditions have been rescheduled to be contested as non-wagering races at Grand River today. Grand River Raceway was forced to cancel the remainder of its September 10 card after race 1 due to unsafe track conditions caused by heavy rain.
Due to tight scheduling necessary to maintain the points earnings key to the upcoming Grassroots Semi-Finals, these were exceptional circumstances � and the current rules and policy (that the races be contested on the next race day) just didn’t fit the needs of the horse people caught in this situation.
Therefore, within minutes of the cancellation the judges had an announcement made in the paddock to the horse people that there would be further communication Thursday morning as to details of the re-scheduling OSS event and the Ontario Racing Commission’s Racing Operations division worked closely with race track management to put together the re-scheduled date of today at 2 pm at Grand River.
Her Own Land, the leading point earner in this division, has post six in the first race for James MacDonald. The Blissfull Hall daughter has 183 points to put her squarely in the top spot thanks to three wins and a second in her last three OSS outings.
The filly who defeated her in her most recent Grassroots start, Born To Dream, has post three in the second division with Doug McNair up for Tony O’Sullivan. The Camluck daughter has 128 OSS points earned to date to place her in third going into today’s races.
