FLAMBORO, ON — Jason Brewer piloted Docdor Doc to the fastest of four two-year-old pacing colt Grassroots divisions at Flamboro Downs on Friday evening, hitting the wire two and a quarter lengths on top in 1:56.

Starting from Post 4, Brewer floated Docdor Doc off the starting gate and was sitting third on the outside as Shady Idea took the field of eight to a :27.4 opening quarter. As fan favourite Keystone Debonair took control heading to the :57.3 half, Brewer found a spot on the rail in third for Docdor Doc, but the colt did not rest long. Before the 1:26.4 three-quarters Brewer sent the Mach Three son after the lead, and turning for home Docdor Doc was already one and one-quarter lengths in front.

Sprinting down the stretch, Docdor Doc pulled away to a two and one-quarter length victory over a hard charging Lyons Geoff and Keystone Debonair, stopping the clock in a personal best 1:56.

Jeffrey Miller of Haviland, OH trains Docdor Doc for his partner Dorothy Miller of Delphos, OH. The win bumped the colt’s freshman record to four wins, two seconds and one third in nine starts and sends him into the Grassroots post season tied with Lyons Geoff for third.

Allamerican Dice wrapped up the regular season atop the standings with a 1:57.3 score in the third $26,890 Grassroots division. With Bruce Richardson in the race bike, the fan favourite started from Post 1 and stalked pacesetter Grinning Breed through fractions of :28.2, :59.2 and 1:29.1 before overtaking the leader in the stretch.

Pacing under the wire one and a half lengths ahead of Grinning Breed and Three Doors Downs Allamerican Dice picked up his second straight Grassroots victory and boosted his point tally to 175.

Rockwood resident Susanne Kerwood trains the Grinfromeartoear son for Irving Bork of Ellington, CT and Lightning Five Racing Stable of Plainview, NY. In nine starts Allamerican Dice has amassed a record of four wins, one second and two thirds for earnings of $65,647.

Round About Fame overcame Post 7 to record his first career victory in the second Grassroots split. Michael Whelan guided the Apaches Fame son to the 1:57.2 come-from-behind score over pacesetter and fan favourite Bilmar Rustler and Richlyn Hugh.

Added to a second and a pair of fourths from his first three Grassroots starts, Friday’s win was enough to land Round About Fame in the top 16 with a total of 91 points. The Carl Jamieson trainee will take his place along the other leading point getters in a pair of $30,000 Grassroots Semifinals on Oct. 20 at Kawartha Downs. A top four finish in the Semifinal round would advance the colt, owned by Jeffrey Gillis of Guelph and Dario De Gasperis of Kleinburg, into the $100,000 Grassroots Championship at Kawartha on Oct. 27.

The other Grassroots division went to Just A Suggestion and driver Don McElroy in 1:56.3. The Camluck colt delivered a tough first-up trip to lay claim to the one length victory over Northern Ace and Sudden Cam, leaving fan favourite and pacesetter Coupon Bob to settle for fourth.

LaSalle resident Bob McIntosh trains Just A Suggestion for his partners Al McIntosh Holdings of Leamington and Dwight Stacey of Mitchell. The trio also bred the gelding, who now has two wins, two seconds and one third to his credit through eight starts.

Friday’s contest wrapped up the Grassroots regular season for all eight divisions, and the top 16 point earners from each age, sex and gait will begin preparations for the Semifinal round at Kawartha Downs on Oct. 18 (three-year-olds) and 20 (two-year-olds). The Grassroots season will conclude with the $800,000 Championship at Kawartha Downs on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Flamboro Downs will wrap up its 2007 Ontario Sires Stakes season on Friday, Nov. 23 with a Trillium Series event for the gifted two-year-old trotting fillies.
