ELORA, ON — Second in a record setting mile at Mohawk Racetrack in June, three-year-old trotting filly Angies Lucky Star carved her own name into the history books at Grand River Raceway on Wednesday, July 3.

Sent off as the overwhelming favourite in the first of three $70,000 Gold Series divisions, Angies Lucky Star and owner-driver Trevor Henry wasted no time establishing their dominance over the field. On the lead through a :28.3 quarter, :57.2 half and 1:27.1 three-quarters, Angies Lucky Star cruised home to a two and one-quarter length victory in an Ontario Sires Stakes record equaling 1:56.1. The original clocking was established by Sugar Wheeler over the Elora oval last season.

Arthur resident Henry shares ownership of Angies Lucky Star with the Estate of Daniel McCann of Parkhill and Richard Moreau trains the daughter of Angus Hall. Through seven starts this season the talented filly has tallied three wins, three seconds and one third for earnings of $192,316.

Fan favourites Motown Muscle and Mario Baillargeon also went gate to wire for a 1:57 score in the second division. Benoit Baillargeon of Rockwood conditions the Muscle Mass filly for owner-breeders Bet Max Stables Inc. and Benenati Inc. of Michigan.

Richard Moreau earned a second visit to the winner’s circle when Orderingin reeled in favourite, and Benoit Baillargeon trainee, Princess Lilly in the stretch. The 1:57.2 win was the second straight for Orderingin, who captured a Grassroots division at Mohawk Racetrack on June 20. Moreau trains the Majestic Son daughter for Furious Farms, Jean Mondoux, Yvan Mondoux and Normand Mondoux of Quebec.

The three-year-old trotting fillies make their next start in the Mid-Summer Challenge at Mohawk Racetrack on August 10. Ontario Sires Stakes action returns to Grand River Raceway on Friday, July 19 with the third Grassroots event for the three-year-old trotting colts.
