WINDSOR, ON — Getting into the top three in the freshman trotting filly Gold Final at Windsor Raceway on Wednesday evening was like gaining admission to the local country club as daughters of Angus Hall swept all three positions.
Leaving from Post 4 Honour Way powered to the front heading past the :28.3 opening quarter and led throughout the mile, laying down fractions of 1:00 and 1:29.1 before fending off a fast closing Philhallmonic in the stretch to score the 1:59.2 victory. Elimination winner Meadowviewprincess picked up the third-place finisher’s share of the $130,000 purse.
Chris Christoforou drove Honour Way to the victory, her first of the season. The filly made her career debut in last week’s elimination round, finishing a closing second to Meadowviewprincess.
A $45,000 acquisition from last fall’s Forest City Yearling Sale, Honour Way is owned by trainer Dave Tingley of Guelph, driver Christoforou of Campbellville, Joseph and Barbara Myers’ Goin My Way Stable of Holland, PA and Murray Goldberg of Longboat Key, FL. Tingley and the Myers’ also share ownership on last season’s two-year-old trotting filly superstar, the $1.22 million winner Peaceful Way.
Savvy Windsor fans sent Honour Way off as their top pick and earned $4.50 to win, $3.40 to place and $3.30 to show. A place ticket on fourth choice Philhallmonic returned $7.20 and a show wager was worth $5.20, while third choice Meadowviewprincess returned $4.00 to show. The Honour Way and Philhallmonic exactor paid $29.70 and selecting all three Angus Hall daughters for a triactor play earned fans $123.80.
With three Gold Series events now in the books, no filly has dominated the two-year-old trotting scene and fans will be looking forward to their fourth contest at Mohawk Racetrack on Sept. 28.
Ontario Sires Stakes excitement returns to Windsor Raceway on Sunday, Oct. 3 with Gold Series Eliminations for the lightning fast three-year-old pacing fillies. The Oct. 3 event kicks off an outstanding stretch of provincial action at the Windsor oval, including four Gold Series’ and one Grassroots event.
