DUNDAS, ON — The hot, humid weather may have abated in southern Ontario, but the province’s racetracks continue to sizzle with exciting Ontario Sires Stakes action.
On Sunday evening Armbro Warranty served notice that there is another major player on the three-year-old pacing colt scene when he captured his first Gold Series Final. The Village Jiffy son and driver Paul Mackenzie overcame Post 6 to reach the front of the pack by the halfway marker and then sailed home to the 1:53 victory by three-quarters of a length. Im A Camedian closed well to be second and Daylon Frontier popped out of the pocket into third spot.
Trainer Fred Logan of Dutton, Petrina and Helen May Lawrence of Madison Heights and Ronald Lesky of Hazel Park, MI own Armrbo Warranty, who improved his sparkling record to four wins and two seconds in seven starts this season. The win also pushed the colt’s bank balance to $162,621.
In spite of a briefly held 1:52.2 track record performance in the elimination round, Flamboro Downs fans sent Armbro Warranty off as their second choice behind Daylon Frontier and as a result the colt returned $5.20 to win, $3.20 to place and $2.10 to show.
Im A Camedian gave his backers a reason to go to the mutuel windows for $4.90 and $2.20, while Daylon Frontier returned $2.20.
The sophomore pacing colts make their next regularly scheduled stop at Woodbine on Aug. 3. Ontario Sires Stakes excitement returns to the Dundas half-mile on Saturday, July 13 when the two-year-old trotting fillies make their way back for their first $130,000 Gold Final.
