CAMPBELLVILLE, ON — B Strike Three might not be the biggest two-year-old trotting colt competing in Ontario, but as of Friday night the Striking Sahbra son is certainly the most impressive.

Competing in Gold Final action at Mohawk Racetrack, B Strike Three and reinsman Rick Zeron delivered a commanding victory that saw them hit the wire five and one-quarter lengths ahead of the competition in 1:56.2, just two-fifths of a second off Majestic Son’s Ontario Sires Stakes record.

Leaving from Post 1 the son of Striking Sahbra and B Floto allowed reigning Gold Final winner Keystone Titan to hustle to the front with a :27.4 opening quarter while he settled in third on the rail. However, Zeron quickly sent B Strike Three after the lead and the colt had a two length advantage by the time he hit the :57.4 half.

On top by more than three lengths at the 1:26.4 three-quarters, B Strike Three was five and a half lengths out in front when he turned for home and simply cruised down the stretch to the effortless victory over elimination winner Pizzazzed and Hot And Coldplay.

The win marked B Strike Three’s third visit to the winner’s circle in four starts this season. A 1:58.4 winner in last week’s elimination round, the colt also captured a division of the Flamboro Breeders Stakes on July 4. The only flaw in his record is a pair of breaks made at Grand River Raceway in Gold Elimination action on July 16 that trainer Rousell Mackenzie of Elora attributed to a couple of sore teeth.

Mackenzie trains B Strike Three for breeder Ben Robards III of Shepherdsville, KY. The trotter is a fourth generation product of the Robards family breeding program.

Friday’s victory boosts B Strike Three’s earnings to $106,373 and should make him a solid favourite as the two-year-old trotting colts make their third Gold Series stop on Aug. 17 at Rideau Carleton Raceway.

Gold Final excitement continues this weekend at Mohawk Racetrack with a $130,000 contest for the talented three-year-old pacing colts slated for Sunday’s 7:20 pm program.
