Beau Jangles topped $1 million in earnings, pushed his unbeaten streak to nine and swept all five Ontario Sires Stakes (OSS) Gold events with a 1:50.2 victory on Tuesday night (Sept. 30) in the lone $140,000 Leg 5 Gold for 2-year-old pacing colts at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The mile comes 10 days after the son of Cattlewash out of Mrs Major Hill won the $1 million Metro Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park in 1:49.1.
Beau Jangles (above) now sports earnings of $1,042,125 for the ownership group of Graham Grace Stables of Clifton, VA, Kiwi Stables of La Plata, MD and Bolton Stables of Clermont, FL. Bred by Tara Hills Stud of Port Perry, ON, where Cattlewash stands stud, Beau Jangles is trained by Dr. Ian Moore and driven by Bob McClure.
Starting from the rail, McClure had Beau Jangles on top before the half and cruised from there to a three-length win over No Waitlist (Tyler Borth). Tillthecowscomehome (Jody Jamieson) was third.
Sent off at 1-9 in the field of eight, Beau Jangles paid $2.10.
Up next for Beau Jangles is the OSS Super Final on Oct. 10 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
“The Super Final will be his 10 starts for him and that’s usually my milestone, if you like, for 2-year-olds,” Moore told Woodbine broadcaster John Rallis. “But, they’re all different and they all handle things differently. So, we’ll just see how it goes.”
The Breeders Crown will be at Woodbine Mohawk Park after the Super Finals.
P L Spencer (Bob McClure) winning the $140,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Leg 5 event for 3-year-old trotting colts on Tuesday (Sept. 30) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Earlier in the card, P L Spencer won the lone $140,000 OSS Gold Leg 5 event for 3-year-old trotting colts in 1:53.1. It was the fourth Gold triumph of the year for the son of Resolve out of P L Indyanaca owned by his trainer Steve Bossence, along with Richard Thompson, Derek Reid and E C S Racing.
Driven by McClure, P L Spencer started from Post 7 and was on top before the half. He led from there, holding off LMC Wagon Wheel (Tyler Borth) by 1 ¾ lengths. Day (Louis-Philippe Roy) was third.
Bred by Prince Lee Acres of Uxbridge, ON and sold for $40,000 at the 2023 London Classic Yearling Sale, P L Spencer now has seasonal earnings of $378,081 and a lifetime haul of $387,681. The gelding is 9-4-0 in 15 starts this year and 10-4-0 in 19 career outings.
Sent off at 1-5, P L Spencer paid $2.40.
In the $140,000 OSS Gold Leg 5 event for 3-year-old trotting fillies, McClure drove Stormont Beautiful to a dominant 7-and-a-half length score over 99-1 longshot Roxie Hart (Mario Baillargeon). Bright Green (Roy) was third.
It was the first Gold victory for the homebred daughter of Resolve out of Stormont Red owned by Stormont Meadows of Long Sault, ON. The Kevin Benn trainee is now 5-3-2 in 14 2025 starts and 8-6-2 in 21 career outings. The win increased Stormont Beautiful’s bankroll to $289,258 this year and $332,883 lifetime.
Sent off at 3-2, Stormont Beautiful paid $5.10 to win.
