CAMPBELLVILLE, ON — Bee A Magician cemented her reputation as the three-year-old trotting filly to beat this season with an Ontario Sires Stakes record performance at Mohawk Racetrack on Monday, June 24.
In rein to Oakville resident Rick Zeron, Bee A Magician powered to a two length victory in 1:52.2, two-fifths of a second faster than the former provincial speed standard. The Kadabra daughter forced rival Angies Lucky Star into a bridesmaid’s role for the second straight start, and the two leaders were well out in front of third-place finisher Motown Muscle.
The other trotting filly Gold division went to Anaffairtoremember, who clocked in at 1:54.1.
Also battling in Gold Series action were the three-year-old pacing colts and Oakville resident Scott Zeron landed two of his mounts in the winner’s circle. The young reinsman teamed up with Roar for the fastest leg, a 1:49.4 mile in the second division, and then made it a double with Mach It So, who hit the wire in 1:50.2.
Neither Roar nor Mach It So were fan favourites, but neither colt was as much of a surprise as Twin B Famous. Rated behind every other team in the first division, Twin B Famous and driver Jody Jamieson of Moffat sprinted down the stretch to a half-length victory in 1:50.4.
The three-year-old trotting fillies now journey to Grand River Raceway on July 3 for their second Gold leg, while the pacing colts head to Ottawa’s Rideau Carleton Raceway on July 28. Ontario Sires Stakes action continues at Mohawk Racetrack on Thursday, June 27 with the Grassroots debut of the two-year-old pacing colts.
