An Ontario-sired filly who didn’t begin her racing career until late in her three-year-old season, will make her first stakes appearance on Thursday in the first leg of the Blizzard Series at Woodbine.

It will be the first WEG outing for the four-year-old mare who has only raced at The Raceway at Western Fair District to date in her young career. Trained by Rick Wade for owner Linda Grummett of Stratford, Ontario, Sweet Princess comes into Thursday’s contest with three wins and one second in four lifetime starts, all at the London half-mile oval.

Mike Saftic will be at the lines for the firsts time on Thursday where Sweet Princess will leave from the rail in the second race. Sweet Princess never had the opportunity to compete in the Ontario Sires Stakes as her first start came in November, a month after the OSS season had concluded.

Sweet Princess is one of only nine foals born in 2011 for stallion Sweet Basil, a son of Albert Albert who earned $292,000 in his career. With just over $10,000 banked to date, Sweet Princess is the richest of Sweet Basil’s offspring.

Sweet Princess is the first foal from the Ontario-sired mare Joespolishprincess who earned over $100,000 in her racing career the hard way, in overnights at tracks across the province.

There are three $16,000 divisions of the Blizzard, which is for three- and four-year-old distaffers who were non-winners of two races or $30,000 as of Hallowe’en of last year.

In the final split, race nine, Ontario-sired filly All The Ladies will attempt to extend her winning streak to six. The just turned three-year-old filly has drawn post four in her contest with James MacDonald scheduled to steer.

The daughter of Shadow Play has won her last five races in a row at the half-milers Flamboro and London.

Post time at Woodbine on Thursday is 7:25. The complete card may be viewed here.
