CAMPBELLVILLE, ON — Brigham Dream returned to the Ontario Sires Stakes program after a three month absence and scored a hard fought 1:55.3 victory in the first of two $55,445 Gold Eliminations at Mohawk Racetrack on Monday evening.

J M Aggie and Summer Audit were responsible for the :28.3, :57.1 and 1:27 fractions in the first elimination, while Brigham Dream took the long route around the Campbellville oval, sitting uncovered on the outside for more than half of the mile. By the three-quarter marker Brigham Dream had scratched her way up to within one-quarter length of Summer Audit, and she easily disposed of the tired leader around the final turn.

One and a half lengths on top when she turned for home, Brigham Dream stayed game in the stretch to fend off fan favourite Maple Sugar and earn the three-quarter length decision.

Regular reinsman Jean Pierre Dubois piloted Brigham Dream to the win for trainer Nicolas Vandenplas and owner-breeder Reve Avec Moi/Dream With Me Stable of Brigham, QC. The win was the Kaisy Dream daughter’s second in Gold Elimination action and established a new personal best for the filly, who now sports an impressive record of five wins in seven starts.

Also advancing to the Gold Final from the first elimination were runner-up Maple Sugar, third-place finisher J M Aggie, and the fourth and fifth-place finishers Constance Hall and Matriarch.

Making her first start in the Ontario Sires Stakes program, Sportyportia delivered a solid come from behind effort to claim a 1:57.4 victory in the second elimination.

Third at the top of the stretch, the Jack Remmerswaal trainee sprinted by pacesetter Caught My Eye and pocket sitter Vanilla Rainbow to earn her second lifetime trip to the winner’s circle. Jtlady Strong also closed like a rocket to finish second, pushing Vanilla Rainbow and Caught My Eye into third and fourth. Carolyn AS overcame the outside Post 9 to finish fifth.

KOR Stable Limited of Guelph own Sportyportia, a half-sister to former Ontario Sires Stakes star For The Luva Moni ($573,109). Unraced at two, Monday’s victory came in the Striking Sahbra daughter’s ninth lifetime start and gives her a record of two wins, two seconds and two thirds.
