HANOVER, ON — C H Meadow Miss claimed her second straight victory with a 2:03.2 score at Hanover Raceway on Wednesday night, clocking the fastest mile of all five freshman trotting filly Trillium Series divisions.

With trainer Nick Henry in the race bike, C H Meadow Miss powered off the starting gate and had two lengths on the field at the :30.1 opening quarter. Through steady fractions of 1:02 and 1:33.2, the CR Renegade maintained her position on the front end, cruising home to the 2:03.2 victory by one and a quarter lengths.

CS R Hope, owned by the Henry Stable of Arthur, earned the second-place finisher’s share of the $14,024 purse and Bernice Daniece, owned by breeder Gwendolyn McNair of Walkerton, picked up the third-place cheque.

The win peeled five seconds off the personal best C H Meadow Miss logged in her first victory of the season, in a Grassroots event at Sudbury Downs on July 31, and boosted her earnings to $20,127 through four starts. Mount Forest resident Nick Henry and Ron Corbett of St. Jacobs bred and own the talented young trotter, who started her freshman career with a fifth-place finish in a Gold Series Elimination at Mohawk Racetrack on July 5.

A Henry also piloted a winner in the last Trillium division, but this time it was Trevor Henry who smiled for Hanover’s track photographer after he guided Strikingly Luvable to a head decision over Highnmighty. Pin Up Hall was five lengths back in third.

Strikingly Luvable delivered an impressive effort to claim the 2:06.1 victory, recovering from an extended break at the start of the race that left her more than 11 lengths off the pace. Henry was in the race bike for his father Ross Henry of Arthur, who trains the filly, and owners the Henry Stable of Arthur and Alan Bodin of Rockwood. Like C H Meadow Miss, Strikingly Luvable was a winner in the Sudbury Downs Grassroots on July 31.

Ross Battin continued to rumble through the Ontario Sires Stakes program, scoring two Trillium Series wins at Hanover on Wednesday. The Monkton resident guided Keystone Alberta to a wire-to-wire score in Race 4 and was back in the winner’s circle after Race 8 with Tracey’s Memory.

Keystone Alberta, owned by trainer Frank O’Reilly of Orton, John Fielding of Toronto and John Ferguson of Windsor, was an effortless winner in the fourth race, cruising across the wire five lengths ahead of Tyrone Abee and 11 lengths up on St Lads Calcium in 2:05.2. The win was the Mr Lavec daughter’s first through four starts.

In Race 8 Battin employed come-from-behind tactics to earn Tracey’s Memory her first victory, in spite of being handicapped by the outside Post 7. The Yankee Paco daughter, a third-place finisher in all three of her earlier starts, sprinted down the stretch to claim the nose victory over favourite Windsong Carnie. Saucy Sarah was 10 lengths back in third.

Caledonia resident John Williamson owns and trains Tracey’s Memory, who boasts earnings of $12,467.

The other Trillium Series division went to Image Lane, who circled three wide at the three-quarters to get up for the two and a half length win in 2:06.1. Girls Legacy, owned by George Henry of Arthur and Kenneth Beaudoin of Waterdown, was second and Hidden Vacation was two more lengths back in third.

Image Lane, owned by Sarah McCoy of Rockwood and driver Karen Hudon of Acton, is trained by Joe Hudon. Through four starts the Balanced Image daughter boasts a record of one win and one third.

One event remains on the two-year-old trotting filly Trillium Series schedule, Nov. 19 at Georgian Downs. The Ontario Sires Stakes program also makes one final stop at Hanover Raceway this season, bringing the three-year-old trotting fillies to town for their second last Grassroots event on Saturday, Sept. 3.
