WINDSOR, ON — Canadette cruised to her second straight victory with a flawless front end performance in the $130,000 two-year-old pacing filly Gold Final at Windsor Raceway on Sunday evening.
With Paul MacDonell in the race bike, Canadette took control of the race just after the :26.3 opening quarter and then rolled through a :55.2 half and 1:24.1 three-quarters on her way to a 1:53 victory over Michelle’s Power and Tymal Trinity. The 1:53 clocking matched the track record the filly set winning her Gold Elimination last weekend.
Robert Chapple of Chatham bred and owns the daughter of Mach Three and former Ontario Sires Stakes star Legacy Of Fame, and Guelph resident Gregg McNair handles her training. Through seven starts Canadette has a record of four wins and two seconds, and earnings of $166,228.
Canadette will now head back to Mohawk Racetrack for the Robert Stewart Stakes before enjoying a well deserved rest. The two-year-old pacing fillies do not return to Gold Series action until Sept. 15 at Mohawk.
Flanking the freshman pacing filly Gold Final was a pair of Gold Eliminations for the three-year-old pacing colts, and Mark MacDonald opted for a front end strategy to land Mr Feelgood his first Ontario Sires Stakes victory.
The pair powered away from Post 4 and laid down fractions of :26.2, :55.3 and 1:23.4 on their way to the 1:51.4 victory. Windsong Cruiser closed hard to claim the runner-up’s share of the $57,552 purse and Hyperion Hanover followed the pacesetter around the five-eighths mile oval into third. Fourth-place finisher Impeccable also advanced to next weekend’s Gold Final and fifth-place finisher Dodgeball drew the lucky straw and will also return to Windsor for the $130,000 Final.
Jimmy Takter trains Mr Feelgood for Canamerica Capital Corp. of Milton, Diversity Stable of North Bergen, NJ and Lindy Farms Of Conn of Enfield, CT. A half-sister to $1.24 million winner Remember When, the son of Rustler Hanover and Best Of Memories started his season competing against North America’s best in the Burlington Stakes and Pepsi North America Cup.
Acquired for $130,000 US at the 2004 Tattersalls Yearling Sale, Mr Feelgood has a record of five wins and one second in 10 starts this season and lifetime earnings of $259,986.
Mark MacDonald was back in the Windsor winner’s circle following the second Gold Elimination. Canada’s leading driver engineered a come from behind effort from Alastor Hanover to land last year’s Ontario Sires Stakes champion back in the Gold Series winner’s circle for the first time this season. The Rustler Hanover son hit the wire in a personal best 1:51.3, three-quarters of a length ahead of Secluded Island and Paper Luck.
Mark Ford trains Alastor Hanover for Martin Scharf of Lawrence, NY and Vicki Fair of Bedford, PA. The colt has struggled to find his footing in the Gold Series this season and has just two wins and one third on his resume through eight starts.
Fourth-place finisher Champ Of Mischief, owned by Steve Calhoun and Michael Lindley of Chatham, also advanced to the Aug. 13 Final.
