FRASERVILLE, ON — Newcastle resident Gord Brown teamed up with Deuces And Jacks to capture the $130,000 three-year-old pacing colt Gold Final at Kawartha Downs on Tuesday evening.

Leaving from Post 3, brown put the Million Dollar Cam son on the front and cruised to the opening quarter in :28. Without facing a serious challenge, Deuces And Jacks sailed through a :57 half and 1:24 three-quarters before accelerating home to a 1:52 victory over In The Irons and The Grin Man.

Kawartha fans sent Deuces And Jacks off as their third choice, behind local favourite Bigtime Ball, who broke hearts when he went off stride heading to the quarter pole. The Cobourg-based Bigtime Ball recovered to finish third, but was placed back to eighth for causing interference to two other horses while on the break.

Deuces And Jacks powered under the wire one and a half lengths ahead of the competition to score his first ever Gold Final victory. Third behind Bigtime Ball in last week’s elimination, Deuces And Jacks was an elimination winner in the Gold Series season opener at Western Fair in June, and has only finished out of the top five once in six Gold Series starts this year.

Princeton resident Donald Lowes owns and trains Deuces And Jacks, who was a top Grassroots horse as a two-year-old before making the successful transition to the Gold Series this season. Tuesday’s victory boosted the colt’s lifetime earnings to $239,189 and his two season record to four wins, eight seconds and five thirds in 23 starts.

A bargain basement $3,200 yearling at the 2005 Canadian Open Sale, Deuces And Jacks also captured Hiawatha Horse Park’s Clearwater Cup on May 24, and finished second in his elimination and third in the final of the Canadian Breeders Championship at Mohawk Racetrack in July.

The fourth colt to capture a Gold Final this season, Deuces And Jacks will have an opportunity to pick up a second Ontario Sires Stakes title at Woodbine Racetrack on Oct. 21 when the three-year-old pacing colts wrap up their regular season.

All of the colts are racing toward one of ten berths in the Nov. 10 Super Final, and Deuces And Jacks assured himself a place in the rich season finale with Tuesday’s triumph.
