CAMPBELLVILLE, ON — Sophomore trotting gelding Equity overcame the trailing Post 11 to record his seventh straight victory and second Gold Elimination trophy at Mohawk Racetrack on Saturday evening.

In rein to Milton resident Randy Waples, Equity was positioned in seventh when Zero Boundaries reached the opening quarter in :27.4. The fan favourite made steady progress up the outside through the :57 half and 1:27 three-quarters, using Panz Kafka as a windbreak, then sprinted down the stretch to the 1:55.1 triumph.

Angeldrive, who set the pace for most of the mile, finished one and three-quarter lengths back in second, and Panz Kafka landed third-place honours. Fourth and fifth-place finishers Illusionsndreams and Celebrity Hercules also advanced to the Aug. 8 Gold Final.

Campbellville resident Chris Christoforou trains Equity and shares ownership and breeding credit on the Kadabra son with Banjo Farms of Toronto. Undefeated since the May 25 Gold Final at Mohawk, Equity boasts an outstanding record of nine wins and one second in 11 starts this season.

With Saturday’s victory, Equity surpassed the six race win streak his mother amassed in her sophomore season for Christoforou, Banjo Farms and William Jones of Lexington, KY. Earl Of My Dreams went on to earn just over $1 million in five years of racing before being retired to the broodmare ranks. Equity is her fourth, and most successful foal to date.

Structure Fire claimed the other $40,000 Gold Elimination with a 1:54.3 personal best effort. Starting from Post 8 with regular reinsman Jason Brewer aboard, Structure Fire sat fifth through most of the mile as Hitithard and Dr Cal did all the work on the front end, rolling through fractions of :27, :56.1 and 1:25.3.

A sharp last quarter move propelled Structure Fire to the one and one-quarter length victory, stripping exactly two seconds off his former personal best. Hitithard had to settle for second, PL Cooper and Hour Lavec circled up from the back of the field to take third and fourth, leaving Senator Hall to claim the last spot in the $130,000 Gold Final.

Like Equity, Structure Fire was unraced at two, and this season the Amigo Hall son has posted three wins and two seconds in 12 starts for trainer Gary Lance of Port Perry and his partners Trevor Lance of Port Perry and Brian Samis of Uxbridge. Since his March 5 debut, the gelding has only missed the top five on one occasion, banking $69,751 for his owners.

When the three-year-old trotting colts return to Mohawk Racetrack on Aug. 8 for the third $130,000 Gold Final of the season, Equity will benefit from Post 1, while Structure Fire takes aim on a Gold Final victory from Post 4. The remainder of the field will line up as follows:
