WOODSTOCK, ON — After a brief foray into the Gold Series, Tymal Francesca returned to Grassroots action at Woodstock Raceway on Saturday afternoon and embarrassed a field of her three-year-old trotting filly peers with a 23 length victory.

Starting from Post 6 driver Rod Boyd gunned Tymal Francesca straight to the front with a :29.1 opening quarter. At the :59.4 half the pair had established a three length lead, by the 1:30.2 three-quarters they had extended the margin to 13 lengths, and by the time Tymal Francesca flounced under the wire in 2:00.4 fans needed binoculars to see runner ups Penetangore and Saranade K C.

Cambridge resident Boyd shares ownership on the Berndt Hanover daughter with trainer Robert Shepherd of Dundas and Peter Buchanan of North Wiltshire, PEI. In 14 starts this season Tymal Francesca boasts four wins, one second and two thirds. In her three Grassroots appearances she has recorded one win and two thirds for a total of 74 points, which bumped her into a two-way tie for fourteenth in the race for one of 16 spots in the Oct. 18 Grassroots Semifinal.

Wayne Henry continued his domination of the Ontario Sires Stakes trainer race with three victories at Woodstock on Saturday. The Arthur resident watched Powerline Mesa, Tymal Timeout and Malahide triumph in their respective divisions, and Windsong Darling finish second in her split.

Trevor Henry piloted Powerline Mesa to her second win of the season with a gate to wire performance from Post 4. The Balanced Image daughter cruised home two and three-quarter lengths ahead of Stonebridge Maiden and Trinity Seelster in 2:04.1. NGA Powerline of Brantford bred and owns Powerline Mesa, who has earned $68,251 in her career.

Two races later Wayne Henry guided Tymal Timeout to a front end victory from Post 6. The Gold Elimination and Trillium winner cruised unchallenged around the Woodstock oval in 2:02.4, two and a half lengths ahead of fan favourite Heads Up Play and long shot Don Wan Misy.

The Henry Stable of Arthur and Daniel McCann of Parkhill share ownership on Tymal Timeout, who has accumulated $308,892 in her two and three-year-old seasons.

Wayne Henry also guided Malahide to an upset in the last Grassroots division for his partners in the Henry Stable. Gostreet and Paradox Image rounded out the top three in the 2:01.2 mile, which marked Duke Of York daughter Malahide’s fourth win in five Grassroots starts this season for a total of 200 points and a share of top spot in the division standings.

Emerald Whisper shares top spot with Malahide, boasting a perfect record of four wins in four Grassroots starts after Saturday’s 2:01.4 victory. Driver Bruce Richardson guided the Earl daughter to the four length score over Berniecomestotown and Paris Oaks for trainer Susanne Kerwood and owners Emerald Ridge Farm of Rockwood, and Devos Stables and Mary Devos of Langton.

Richardson and Kerwood also partnered in the first $15,000 Grassroots division to earn BJs Fancy her second straight Grassroots victory. Owned by Richardson, who makes his home in Arthur, Joseph Coffey of Orangeville and Gordon Smellie of Arthur, BJs Fancy is hot on the heels of her stablemate with 183 points earned from three Grassroots wins, one second and one fourth.

The Angus Hall daughter inherited the front end when pacesetter and fan favourite Trot Your Sox Off made a break around the last turn, but BJs Fancy sealed the victory with an impressive finishing kick that propelled her to the 2:01.1 victory. Gianna De Vie finished second and Trot Your Sox off regained her composure fast enough to get up for third.

The other Grassroots division went to Maple Missy in 2:02 for owner Carol Campbell of Kingston.

The three-year-old trotting fillies have one last opportunity to earn Grassroots points, on Oct. 3 at Flamboro Downs, while Saturday’s battle signalled the end of Woodstock Raceway’s 2007 Ontario Sires Stakes season.
