SARNIA, ON — Trainer Bob McIntosh and driver Brad Forward joined forces on Thursday evening to land a pair of three-year-old pacing fillies in the winner’s circle at Hiawatha Horse Park.

Starting from Post 5 in the third of seven $24,000 Grassroots divisions, Forward sent Power Outage straight for the front, battling Arts Star for control of the pace through a snappy :26 opening quarter. Forward and Power Outage continued to lead the field through a :54.1 half and 1:23.3 three-quarters, then cruised down the stretch to a two length victory in 1:53.1.

Arts Star finished second, with Lil Miss Nyalation three and a half lengths back in third.

Windsor resident McIntosh, Paul Ysebaert of Mooretown and Clifford Grundy of Howell, MI bred Power Outage and share ownership on the fourth foal from $1 million winner Electrical Art with Dave Boyle of Bowmanville. Through nine sophomore starts Power Outage has posted five victories and earned $51,125. The filly is two for two in Grassroots action.

In the fourth Grassroots division, Forward was reunited with last year’s Grassroots champion Tomorrowpan. Starting from Post 1 the pair took command of the race before the :55.4 half and sailed home unchallenged to a one and three-quarter length victory in 1:53.1. Chief Karen closed well to finish second, while early leader Joint Effort settled for third.

Tomorrowpan now has three wins, two seconds and $55,565 to her credit through seven sophomore starts. The No Pan Intended daughter is owned by breeder Peter Pan Stables Inc. of Pepper Pike, OH. In three Grassroots starts she has posted two wins and one second for a total of 125 points.

Forward made one last stop in the Hiawatha winner’s circle, guiding Champale Blue Chip to a head victory in the ninth race. Sent off the fan favourite, Champale Blue Chip clawed her way up the outside and reeled in pacesetter Mistreos in the final strides to earn the 1:53.4 win. Rose Seelster was just three-quarters of a length back in third.

Cambridge resident Casie Coleman trains Champale Blue Chip for Tom Hill of Lancashire, GB and has orchestrated a perfect record of three wins in three Grassroots starts for the No Pan Intended daughter. Unraced at two, Champale Blue Chip has accumulated six wins and two thirds in 14 sophomore starts for earnings of $56,770.

The other Grassroots divisions were captured by Bunny In The Bank in 1:53.3; Mylittlerebel in 1:54.3; Kiss The Glass in 1:54.3; and Quiteasassybanana in 1:54.1.

The three-year-old pacing fillies wrap up their regular Grassroots season on Oct. 5 at Western Fair Raceway, and then the top 16 points earners will make their way to Rideau Carleton Raceway for the Oct. 25 Grassroots Semifinals.

Hiawatha Horse Park wraps up its 2009 Ontario Sires Stakes schedule on Thursday, Sept. 24, when the two-year-old pacing colts arrive in Sarnia for their fourth Grassroots skirmish.
