INNISFIL, ON — When the two-year-old pacing colts roll in behind the gate for their $130,000 Gold Final on Saturday night, Georgian Downs fans will be on the edge of their seats waiting to see if the youngsters can match or better the 1:52.4 track record Funny Bones set in the elimination round.

Warrawee Ideal will start right beside Funny Bones in the Gold Final, and trainer Carl Jamieson admits he would like to see a more sedate pace for the colt’s second lifetime start.

“I don’t know how fast they’ll go this week, but they went plenty fast last week,” says the veteran horseman, who trains Warrawee Ideal for his partners Fred Brayford of Alliston, the George Arthur Stable of Rockwood and Robin Raine of Cumbria, ENG. “Too fast for this time of year.”

Warrawee Ideal finished second in his elimination to Canyoukeepasecret, just three-quarters of a length behind the winner in the 1:55.4 mile, and will start from Post 7 in the Final. Elimination winners Twin B Survivor, Canyoukeepasecret, Funny Bones and Unspeakable will start from Posts 2, 4, 6, and 9.

“It’s hard to say how that will work out,” says Jamieson. “It depends on how the luck goes.”

A $23,000 acquisition from last fall’s Forest City Yearling Sale, Warrawee Ideal has been a solid performer since the first day Jamieson hitched him to a jog cart.

“Dr. Michael Wilson raised him and we looked at him at the farm before the sale and ended up buying him,” recalls the Princeton resident. “He was pretty good all year. He’s a pretty nice colt to work with really, and he doesn’t wear any boots or anything.”

The son of first year sire Million Dollar Cam and Tammy Renee Q qualified twice at Mohawk Racetrack in preparation for his Ontario Sires Stakes debut last weekend and finished second in both outings.

Last week at Georgian Downs he and driver Randy Fritz landed in fourth from Post 1, sat on the rail until just past the halfway marker and then tipped out behind Gimme A Grin. Sprinting down the stretch the pair were reeled in by Canyoukeepasecret and had to settle for the runner-up share of the elimination purse. Paul Mackenzie will take over driving duties on Saturday and will be looking to elevate Warrawee Ideal from his runner-up status.

Georgian Downs sends its first race into the starter’s hands at 7:35 pm and then turns the spotlight on the two-year-old pacing colts in Race 9. Following the $130,000 Gold Final, some of the province’s top aged trotters will battle in the $67,000 Molson Canadian Trotting Series Final in Race 10.
