DUNDAS, ON — Front end control proved an effective strategy for freshman pacing fillies Its No Secret and Kims Royal Day as they cruised to victory in their respective Gold Eliminations at Flamboro Downs on Friday evening.
Heavy favourites Its No Secret and driver Anthony MacDonald powered out to the front from Post 4 in what was reduced to a four filly field when former Gold Final champion Right On Molly was scratched due to sickness. The reigning Gold Final champs reached the opening quarter in :28.4, the half in :59.4 and the three-quarters in 1:29.3 before cruising home to a one length victory in 1:57.4.
Raise Your Glass finished second, In The Wheelhouse was another length and one-quarter back in third and Mary Celeste hit the wire six lengths back in fourth. All four fillies advanced to next Friday’s $130,000 Gold Final.
The win was Its No Secret’s fifth in eight starts. The daughter of Badlands Hanover and Secret Departure also has two seconds and one third to her credit and earnings of $186,500.
Bred and owned by Robert Hamather of Exeter, Its No Secret is conditioned by Shawn Robinson. The talented filly will be aiming for her second Gold Final title from Post 7 in next week’s test.
In the second $40,000 Gold Elimination Kims Royal Day and driver Billy Davis Jr. started on the rail at Post 1 and never had to budge from that spot as the sailed along on the front end to a three length victory in 1:56.2.
Best Impressions tailed Kims Royal Day through fractions of :29.2, :59.1 and 1:27.3 but could get no closer to the pacesetter than one and three-quarter lengths. Prynne Hanover and Kamkar Kutie battled down the stretch into third and fourth, earning a spot in next week’s final. Fan favourite Macharoundtheclock trailed the field through most of the race and finished fifth.
Cambridge resident Blake MacIntosh trains and shares ownership of Kims Royal Day with Stuart McIntosh of Essex. Through eight starts the Royal Mattjesty daughter has tallied three wins, two seconds and two thirds and currently sits atop the division standings with 212 points.
Davis will steer Kims Royal Day, now a three-time Gold Elimination winner, after her first Gold Final title from the advantageous Post 1 next Friday.
