INNISFIL, ON — Georgian Downs fans were treated to another evening of exceptional racing from Ontario’s talented two-year-old pacing colts on Tuesday, highlighted by a 1:55.2 romp around the five-eighths mile oval by Saratoga Seelster.

With Mike Saftic along the for the ride, Saratoga Seelster rolled through fractions of :27.4, :57.3 and 1:27 on his way to a six length victory over In The Irons. Dr Sharkey was seven more lengths back in third.

Saratoga Seelster started his Ontario Sires Stakes season with a third-place finish in a Gold Elimination at Mohawk Racetrack on July 2 and returned to Mohawk the following week to capture the Gold consolation by a head in 1:55. Trainer Gregg McNair of Guelph and owners John Fielding of Toronto and Brian Zong of Downsview opted to move the colt down to the Grassroots for his third lifetime start and the move netted the group another $7,500 deposit against the Camluck son’s $60,000 purchase price.

Saratoga Seelster’s margin of victory was by far the largest as the novice pacers delivered one exciting finish after another. In the fourth race Windsun Ben, owned by Stephen Scarff of Stayner and Canamerica Capital Corp. and Hyatt Holdings Inc. of Milton, delivered a gutsy performance to earn a quarter length victory in his first lifetime start.

The Apaches Fame son turned back a challenge at the three-quarter pole from Fourth Page, owned by Millar Farms of Newmarket, and then stayed game when the colt came back at him in the stretch. Windsun Ben claimed the 1:57.3 victory with Fourth Page hot on his heels in second and Patch Seelster four lengths back in third.

You Gotta See This also dug in hard in the stretch to stave off Hez Bo Diddy and claim his second Grassroots trophy. The Northern Luck colt captured a Grassroots divisions in the June 22 season opener at Kawartha Downs, then bounced up to the Gold Series at Mohawk where he finished fourth in his elimination and the consolation.

Back in the Grassroots on Tuesday, You Gotta See This battled to a neck victory in 1:56.3 for trainer-driver James Ritchie and owner Paul Ritchie of Orangeville.

Ultrasonic rounded out the top three in the sixth race, one and three-quarter lengths behind the winners.

Mach It Paid also posted his second Grassroots victory to boost his point tally to 100 and put him in a three-way tie with You Gotta See This and Sauble Ron for top spot in the division standings. Ray McLean, Jr. guided Mach It Paid to the 1:56.3 three-quarter length victory over Gemstone and Scotian Sunset for trainer James Kay of Ancaster and his partner Isaac Waxman of Ancaster.

Georgian Downs fans had their first look at Mach It Paid in the Gold Series season opener where he finished third in the June 17 elimination and eighth in the June 24 Gold Final. His Grassroots victory came at Quinte Exhibition Raceway on July 7 where he delivered a 2:01 effort.
