WINDSOR, ON — Go West Lucky Cam raised the curtain on Windsor Raceway’s Sunday evening Grassroots line up, touring his local oval in 1:53.2.

With Brad Forward in the race bike, three-year-old pacing colt Go West Lucky Cam grabbed control of the race early and never relinquished his hold, stepping home to a 1:53.2 victory. Shortstacked finished two lengths back in second, reeling in third-place finisher Names Fame through the stretch.

Windsor resident Bob McIntosh trains Go West Lucky Cam for his partners Al McIntosh Holdings Inc. of Leamington and Dwight Stacey of Mitchell. Through 11 starts this season the homebred son of Camluck and Our May West has accumulated three wins, two seconds and two thirds for earnings of $45,580.

In the second $24,000 split, My Gift To You posted the quickest win of the five Grassroots divisions, claiming the lead before the halfway marker and cruising home to a 1:52.3 score over Stand By Cam and Sterling Chris.

Jason Brewer engineered the colt’s tenth victory in 32 starts for trainer Jeff Gillis and owner Mark Ford of Slate Hill, NY.

My Gift To You’s victory was the first of two Brewer would record in Grassroots action. The reinsman also landed in the winner’s circle following the sixth race, steering Surrealist to a come from behind victory in 1:53.1. Blended Whiskey led for most of the mile, but yielded to Surrealist in the stretch. Montanez rounded out the top three.

The win was the first this season for Surrealist, who is trained by Ben Wallace for owner Bradley Grant of Milton. In 11 starts the Modern Art son now has one win, one second and one third for earnings of $69,064.

In the fourth Grassroots division Kevin Wallis turned a catch drive aboard The Ladies Man into a trip to the winner’s circle, sending the Modern Art gelding straight to the front and controlling the tempo through the 1:53.4 finish. Mild Mannered shadowed The Ladies Man into second, while Lookin For A Fight closed well to be third.

Grand Valley resident Jim Ritchie conditions The Ladies Man for his partners Paul Ritchie of Orangeville, Murray Cox of Rockwood and Greg Majkowski of Novi, MI. The gelding has five wins, two seconds and four thirds to his credit through 17 starts this season.

The final Grassroots trophy was awarded to Enlightened Cam, who led the field through the first half, yielded to fan favourite Alexie Mattosie, and then sprinted down the stretch to claim a half length lead. Alexie Mattosie settled for second, with Panjour Monsieur well back in third.

France MacLean trains the E Dees Cam son for Paul MacLean of Chelmsford and Gerry Gauthier of Azilda. In 19 starts the colt has seven wins, one second and four thirds to his credit.

The three-year-old pacing colts will wrap up their regular season at Western Fair Raceway on Oct. 17, with the top 16 point earners then heading to Rideau Carleton Raceway for the Oct. 25 Grassroots Semifinal. The top four finishers from each Semifinal will compete for $100,000 in the Nov. 1 Grassroots Championship.

Ontario Sires Stakes excitement continues to build at Windsor Raceway this week, as the two-year-old trotting fillies square off on Tuesday in Gold Elimination action, and the two-year-old pacing fillies bring their high speed show to town on Wednesday in a pair of Gold Eliminations.
