WINDSOR, on — Buying yearlings may be a chancy business, but a pedigree chart and yearling sale price were all the tools you needed to handicap the two-year-old pacing colt Gold Series Eliminations at Windsor Raceway on Wednesday night.
The two highest priced colts entered captured their eliminations and a pair of youngsters from gifted families finished first and second in the other split.
Twin B Dynamic made a deposit against his $150,00 purchase price by capturing the first Elimination with a sharp 1:56 effort. The son of Camluck and Daylon Magic recovered from an early break in stride to post the three and three-quarter length victory over favourite Sir Luck and King Jack MacLeod.
Jeffrey Snyder of New York and the Lothlorien Equestrian Centre of Mississauga, recent winners of the $1.5 million Pepsi North America Cup with Red River Hanover, own Twin B Dynamic who is a half-brother to $437,235 winner and former OSS star Twin B Champ.
Windsor resident Bob McIntosh dominated the remaining two divisions, finishing one, two in the seventh race with Make It Brief and Rustys Gold and winning the eleventh with Stonebridge Premio.
In the second elimination Make It Brief and fan favourite Rustys Gold sat on the outside throughout the mile as Au Rumba carved out balanced fractions of :28, :58.3 and 1:27.2. As the field turned for home both of McIntosh’s trainees put the pedal to the metal and it was Make It Brief who turned in a snappy :28.4 last quarter to score the half length win in 1:57. Boulder Creek rounded out the top three.
McIntosh bred and owns Make It Brief, a Camluck half brother to $283,184 winner Presidential Speed out of the mare Lingerie.
The colt that has been causing a buzz in the McIntosh barn all spring proved he is the real deal by scoring a 1:56.2 wire-to-wire victory in the third elimination. Stonebridge Premio was one of McIntosh’s top picks at last fall’s yearling sales and Robert Waxman of Ancaster anted up $105,000 to acquire the son of Camluck and Fran Seelster, a sibling to Stonebridge First ($610,613) and Stonebridge Prize ($394,936).
Village Blitz delivered the fastest last quarter of the night to finish second by one half length and Bunny Lane picked up the third-place finisher’s share of the $38,523 purse.
The top three colts from each Elimination will face off against each other at Windsor Raceway on Wednesday, July 3 in their first $130,00 Gold Series Final and with the depth of talent the young pacers displayed in their provincial debut it should be a humdinger.
