DRESDEN, ON — Carl Jamieson trainees captured a pair of two-year-old pacing filly Grassroots divisions at Dresden Raceway on Monday afternoon, capping off a very good day at the races for the Princeton resident.

In addition to the Grassroots trophies claimed by Iwantyou Wantyou and Spun Sugar, Jamieson also finished first and second in the $300,000 Battle Of Waterloo at Grand River Raceway with two-year-old pacing colts Warrawee Ideal and Test Flight.

Iwantyou Wantyou kicked off the veteran horseman’s successful afternoon with an impressive 2:00.4 triumph from Post 8 in the first of nine $15,000 Grassroots divisions. The daughter of Camluck and I’m So Excited sat on the outside of the Dresden half-mile for almost half of the race before reaching the front, and then held off On The Choo Choo and Play At Wynn to claim the victory by a head.

Jamieson shares ownership on the full-sister to $460,757 winner Abouttolosecontrol with breeder Dr. Robert Boyce of London. Through seven starts Iwantyou Wantyou has amassed a record of one win, three seconds and two thirds for earnings of $21,657.

Brad Forward piloted Iwantyou Wantyou to victory and made a second trip to the Dresden winner’s circle with Jamieson trainee Spun Sugar, clocking the fastest mile of the nine Grassroots divisions.

Starting from Post 3 the pair fired to the front and led through all stations, cruising under the wire five lengths ahead of the competition in 1:58.3. Lil Motion and Playin With Magic rounded out the top three in the eighth race.

The daughter of Camluck and Landfair Caveat is a sister to former Jamieson standouts Cupcakesnwhipcream ($447,157) and Caviarandsoftmusic ($180,814). Breeder Boyce and Jamieson share ownership on Spun Sugar, who started her season in the Gold Series and boasts a record of one win, one second and one third in six starts.

Driver Allan Cullen also enjoyed a successful afternoon at Dresden, landing three of his Grassroots mounts in the winner’s circle.

The veteran reinsman teamed up with trainer Keith Cullen in the seventh race to engineer a 2:00.3 victory for first time Grassroots starter Georgian Bay. The Island Fantasy miss led from start to finish, cruising under the wire one and three-quarter lengths ahead of Maman I Miss You and Harmony Lynne.

Breeder Robert McCurdy and Jeffrey Rader of Columbus, OH own Georgian Bay, who started her season with a pair of non-winners of one race contests at Mohawk Racetrack and Windsor Raceway.

Cullen then proceeded to polish off the last two Grassroots events with Dalona Killean and Angel In Motion, using front end tactics to earn each filly her first victory.

Scott McNiven trains Run The Table miss Dalona Killean for breeders Killean Acres of Ingersoll. The filly tested her skills in an overnight event at Grand River Raceway on August 1 before heading to Dresden for her Grassroots debut. The fan favourite cruised to an effortless 2:00.2 victory, hitting the wire five and a half lengths ahead of Emblem Seelster and Dolly Sunshine.

Mervin Smith of Dorchester bred and owns Camotion filly Angel In Motion, who stopped the clock at 1:59.3 in her second lifetime start. The Jason Libby trainee debuted at Flamboro Downs on June 24 where she finished seventh in Gold Series star Luck Of Michelle’s world record 1:53.3 mile. After taking some time off to recuperate from that effort, the filly bounced back with an impressive 1:57.1 qualifying win at Mohawk Racetrack on July 31 before setting her sights on Grassroots glory.

Ja El Cash Advance and Jill And Wendy rounded out the top three in the last Grassroots division.

The other Grassroots winners at Dresden on Monday afternoon were Just Her Way in 1:58.4, Iwishihadbaytsim in 2:01, Amyng For Gold in 2:00 and Secret Grin in 1:59.

The two-year-old pacing fillies return to Grassroots action on Aug. 17 at Hiawatha Horse Park, while Dresden Raceway gears up to host the two-year-old trotting fillies on Labour Day Monday, Sept. 4.
