CLINTON, ON — Canada’s leading reinsman Jody Jamieson dropped in to Clinton Raceway on Sunday afternoon and took home a pair of Grassroots trophies when he piloted three-year-old trotting colts Overdraft and Agusto to victory.

Jamieson picked up his first victory with the his second Grassroots mount, sending Overdraft straight to the front from Post 1 and controlling the pace through fractions of :30.1, 1:01 and 1:32.1. The Angus Hall gelding cruised home a two and one-quarter length winner over Berndt Energy and Once A Thief.

Eric Adams trains Overdraft for breeder Millar Farms of Newmarket and Glengate Farms of Campbellville. Through 11 starts the trotter has amassed three wins, three seconds and three thirds for earnings of $50,866. Two wins, one second and one fifth in Grassroots action have earned Overdraft 130 points and given him sole ownership of third spot in the division standings.

Jamieson was back in the winner’s circle following Race 11 after rocketing around the Clinton oval to a 1:59.3 victory aboard Agusto. Waytogo Abra and Savthelstdancforme finished nine lengths behind the leader in second and third.

Sunday’s outing was Agusto’s first for trainer Colin Johnson and owners Kellogg Racing Stables LL of Queensbury, NY, who acquired the Angus Hall son from the Aug. 23 Summer Sizzler Sale for $83,000. Flawless through his last five starts, Agusto sits atop the sophomore trotting colt standings with a perfect record of 150 points earned through three wins in three Grassroots outings. Under the tutelage of former trainer John Bax the colt also captured the final of the Dream Of Glory Stake at Hanover Raceway on Aug. 1.

Chasing Agusto in the point race is Pembrook Street, who captured his second Grassroots victory of the season in the seventh race on Sunday. The Earl son and driver Dale Fritz stalked pacesetter Fast As You through the first half of the mile, then accelerated away from the field to a nine length victory in 2:00. Fan favourite Play Right was second with Northern Spirit rounding out the top three.

George Henry trains Pembrook Street for Michael Wassilyn of Toronto, who has watched his trotter post two wins, one second and three thirds in 10 start this season for earnings of $35,610.

Dale Fritz’s brother Randy Fritz engineered the first provincial win of the season for last year’s Grassroots Champion Lukas Rossi in the first $24,000 division. The pair controlled the tempo from start to finish, cruising under the wire in 2:02.2 for trainer Ron O’Neill of Cambridge and his partners P C Wellwood Enterprises Inc. of Cambridge and Nancy Stephens of Woodstock.

Winning Decision and H S Blaze battled into second and third-place, three lengths behind the winner.

The other Grassroots divisions went to Anahar Buster in 2:01.2; Dashing Earl in 2:03; and Mopey Corey in 1:59.3. The three-year-old trotting colts make the fifth start of their Grassroots season on Sept. 22 at Georgian Downs.

Sunday’s trotting festival wrapped up Clinton Raceway’s 2009 Ontario Sires Stakes season, which also saw area fans treated to outstanding performances by the two-year-old trotting fillies and the three-year-old pacing colts.
