Jersey Bulldog (Bob McClure) smashed the Canadian, track and OSS record with an ultra-impressive 1:48.1 victory in the $350,000 OSS Super Final for rookie pacing fillies on Saturday (Oct. 10) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Sent off as the 5-2 second choice, the daughter of Bulldog Hanover out of Gallie Beach defeated 4-5 favourite Aceandaten (Doug McNair) by one length.
Sitting fourth in the early going, McClure made his move before the half, clearing to the front and passing the midway split in :54.1. McClure parked Waves Of Fortune (James MacDonald) throughout the final turn, blasting through the three-quarters in 1:21. A wave of fillies tried to close on Jersey Bulldog in the stretch, with Aceandaten giving it the best shot, but still coming up short.
The mile, which shaved well over a second off the previous OSS best of 1:49.3 set by Pass Line in 2023, was just one-fifth-of-a-second slower than the 1:48 performance by 3-year-old male pacer Redland Rocket Man three races later in Saturday’s program.
“That exceeded [my expectations] for sure,” McClure told Woodbine broadcaster John Rallis. “I don’t think anybody here expected a :48 mile out of a 2-year-old pacing filly on Super Final night. There’s a helping wind, but it’s cold, and you know that was a lot of racing to do to get to the front. She’s just got all the tools. She’s got depth, desire, and speed. She’s the whole package, and she’s exciting to think about for next year.”
Jersey Bulldog, the winner of the $510,00 She’s A Great Lady on Sept. 26 at Woodbine Mohawk Park, now has earnings of $652,920 for trainer and co-owner John Pentland of Dorchester, ON, who shares the pacer with Sherri Sumner, also of Dorchester, the Jack Darling Stables of Cambridge, ON and Alan Alber of Thornhill, ON.
Pentland also won the sophomore pacing colt Super Final with Redland Rocket Man.
“The [She’s A Great Lady] was phenomenal,” co-owner Darling said. “But tonight was every bit as good. I can’t believe they went that kind of a mile tonight.”
Jersey Bulldog is now 6-1-3 in 12 starts. She paid $7.90 to win.
Qued Up (Trevor Henry) was third, followed by Twin B Mayreau (Louis-Philippe Roy) and Money Carlo (Jody Jamieson).
Bred by Mark Mullen and Stephen Dey of New Jersey, Jersey Bulldog was purchased for $40,000 at the 2025 Standardbred Horse Sales Company yearling sale in Harrisburg, PA.
